Ooh, exciting! Sounds like a perfect companion piece to Jackie.
I would have never thought to cast Kristen Stewart as Princess Di, but she is one of my favorite actresses today, I think she's underrated.
That being said, I am nervous for her in this role. I haven't seen a ton of versatility from her, and this character is very unlike what we're used to from her. Can she pull off the accent and transform? I was disappointed by Seberg, and that was a role that fit her like a glove. Knowing actresses like Naomi Watts have already failed to create a definitive Diana biopic, it would be astonishing if Stewart could pull it off. But, Larrain is certainly the perfect director for this project.
Also, what movie is your signature GIF from?

Jackie was fantastic. Portman gave one of the best performances of the decade.
Definitely intrigued. Sounds like an interesting companion piece.

I’m a Stewart fan so I’ll be rooting for her to be successful here but I’m also skeptical. Really loved Jackie though so I’ll be looking forward to this progressing.

I don't think she has the craft to pull it off tbh - this isn't Portman as Jackie - this is Stewart as someone of a different culture who will require far more technical rigor. I didn't think much of her Seberg performance (she was committed though) and it didn't remind me of the actual Seberg either and she was far better suited for that one.......... this requires far more mimicry because everyone knows Diana and she can do far less of that "intangible" acting which is what she can do so well (Personal Shopper). I'm surprised by Larrain's comment - which I bolded - the movie to make is the movie about Charles & Camilla - THAT'S a great movie and THAT was a fairy tale upside down ............ and as a love story it must have been hard .........that is far more to his style and sensibility - a great real love story of 30 years (longer?) when everyone wanted the illusion/fairy tale. I mean Diana's is basically a sad story but it wasn't a fairy tale upside down story of really in the way he's describing it........that's a concern when the filmmaker is misrepresenting his own film.

Also, what movie is your signature GIF from? I am 99% certain that it is trailer footage from Tenet.

I cannot see Stewart take on the part of a public sweetheart. She has too much edge to her, literally in terms of the angles of her eyes and face. She's behind the 8-ball even before getting into the technical aspects of the role.

Really astute point - sometimes you see that in reverse when directors find their stars wanting to collaborate: I think about Destroyer where the director and star wanted to do something and the director sort of shoehorned the star into the project and it collapsed (imo many liked it) ........what's weird is that Lorrain and Stewart seem so simpatico in a lot of ways. I just saw his Tony Manero (never saw it before) and that sort of otherwordly "is this happening" tangent vibe is his and her forte in performance.........they could probably do great work together in something else.

My initial reaction is that I can't see Stewart as Diana, but then I remembered that I couldn't see Portman as Jackie Kennedy, either, and that film/performance turned out beautifully - I'm trusting Larraín's gut on this - he's earned that as a filmmaker.

Was mentioned elsewhere on the webz the suggestion of Elizabeth Debicki as Diana and holy hell does that seem like a much better fit that I would rather see.

I'm guessing she'll be better than Watts. Just a guess.

Ooh, I don't know how popular a movie about Charles & Camilla would be, but great thinking though, imo, that that's where the hidden story is. Not that an amazing movie can't be done about Diana, even though so much is known about her life, but I don't know, I think maybe it still needs distance to get it right, or that maybe it's best if another angle like the one you suggested is taken and Diana could pop up as a supporting character rather than the main character. Maybe a miniseries would be the best approach. Like I don't always love his stuff, but it seems something right up Ryan Murphy's alley, if he were to do a miniseries with Diana and the Royals from the '80s to when she passed. Was mentioned elsewhere on the webz the suggestion of Elizabeth Debicki as Diana and holy hell does that seem like a much better fit that I would rather see. Oh man! I wish we would have gotten this now. She looks so much more like Diana, and I completely agree with your post right before this one in the thread that Stewart just has too much of an edge to her. It works for her with some characters, but I think she's totally miscast as Diana.

I thought there was already a thread about this, but I can't find it.
Here's the first look at Kristen Stewart as Princess Diana.
I guess she looks okay, but not as much as Emma Corrin. Still think Stewart was a bad choice for Princess Diana, but I've been wrong a lot before so that could be the case here too.

Surprised by the comments here tbh...... She doesn't look like her and she has no professional training as an actress - she's like Debra Winger and Jennifer Lawrence - like them when she has to stretch herself in any way she can't be a "natural" - and she can fail big time.........she has to use technique, and she has no technique or has shown none.......that's why her best performance was Personal Shopper and not Seberg - one was her creation, one was not. But her director knows all about how to do this stuff and I'm not talking Jackie I'm talking Tony Manero - if this is the former, this fails because she can't carry a traditional movie of this type I reckon........if it's the latter, she triumphs by the movie he put around her - which implicates and replicates pop culture and puts the distorted image at the center.

Very skeptical about Stewart as Princess Di, mostly cause I'm not sure she can pull off the accent, but her look in the role doesn't seem off at least.
