Nice little clickbait tweet there. The actual article is titled 'Lucille Ball’s Daughter Says Nicole Kidman ‘Astounding’ in Sorkin’s Being the Ricardos', and spends most of the interview praising the film. Yes, she mentions there are some scenes that are inaccurate, but she recognises that sometimes creative licenses are taken. This really isn't a big deal and isn't going to hurt the movie at all. Agreed. Big ole nothing burger

Apparently a poster on AwardsDaily called Enthusiastic who was at the screening is sending his thoughts out via PM. He's raving Kidman's performance and saying she is coming for at least a nomination.
It's clearly a two-hander (ie the Ricardos), so I'm sure some people might prefer Bardem as his role is equal in size (which basically happens all the time in these relationship dramas, ie Washington and Davis in Fences or Driver and Johansson in Marriage Story), but Kidman definitely has by far the higher bar of difficulty to clear in terms of what people felt she could pull off, so if she's basically done that, she will be in a very good spot indeed.

I guess you missed the Kidman convo in the Don't Look Up thread. Skimmed it. Didn't find it particularly interesting. Mostly a felt like a random, speculative conversation about who is more famous to American audiences between Jennifer Lawrence and Nicole Kidman, with little evidence presented on either side. Not really sure what the relevance of that convo is to this (other than the fact that Kidman's name is in that other conversation).

Enthusiastic didn’t see the film. That’s a weird AW inside joke that I don’t really get, but yeah, he definitely didn’t see it and doesn’t live in California.

I think it's just GeorgeEastman trying to be funny by trolling Enthusiastic. Still, kinda funny that Pup fell for it.

As inside jokes go, it seems pretty daft. Still, even Jordan Ruimy of World Of Reel is saying that based on his "sources" Kidman is good enough here for an Oscar nomination and allegedly has a "standout scene" in the film (recreation of Chocolate Factory scene that Ball did), and this looks to be be a contender for multiple acting nominations. Now he could just be chatting shit, like his last "scoop" about The Tragedy Of Macbeth, but if you choose to believe him, then Kidman is a serious contender also. www.worldofreel.com/blog/2021/8/gvys25781j33yzrm6md4glc4gf1y9o

Very happy to hear this about Bardem - I consider him a world class actor and hope they don't try to shoehorn him supporting and fraud him - if he's lead run him lead. World of Reel has done a great job here providing info on Tragedy of Macbeth (gave specifics on it “It’s a beautifully morose and kooky film") and The Card Counter just 2 days ago .....dude never claimed to have a "scoop" just printed what was told to him - EXACTLY like he did here. On the other hand .......the "Enthusiastic" stuff from AW in this thread though that made me piss myself laughing .......I can now reveal to you all that pacinoyes actually IS the mysterious "Enthusiastic" Nah, just kidding

I don't know if i already said it, but I think Bardem will shift to Supporting to have better chances of getting a nomination since the competition in Actor seems already packed with the sextet Smith-Cumberbatch-Washington-DiCaprio-Driver-Cooper and Isaac, Garfield, and Dinklage as lurking wild cards.

Yeah this is why I said if he's a lead run him in lead - it would have been a joke to put Driver in Support for Marriage Story and I think this may not be possible to do without being an "Oh fnck no - that's category fraud" moment........."couples" movies have to go both in Lead - I know Fences didn't but that was called Fences not THE Ricardo(s) - that "s" matters They may want to take their chances in actor because Suporting while not a major as BA has multiple possible double nominee films that eat up spots - House of Gucci - especially Power of The Dog etc......in BA you can let the performance stand on its own more.........either way is a risk

FWIW, Bardem is in the film a bit less than Kidman. Supporting is a stretch imo, but there have been more egregious cases of category fraud.

Ok, I've been a big supporter of World of Reel and I'm not always positive to Nicole Kidman (particularly in the MAR years where to me she's become same-y and struggled imo.........) but this is kind of a total dick move........ World of Reel references a Letterboxd review (wtf) - which AT BEST would only be justifiable if World of Reel actually knows the reviewer and knows they were at the screening, right?(?) This might be some Awards Watch dude or something so maybe he does - and take it with a huge bag of salt .......I suspect he knows this guy or he wouldn't have done this......but ......just passing it on.......and I'm not sure this was EVER supposed to be a "tragic telling of Lucile Ball's life" (really?)..... A few weeks ago I had posted a test screening reaction for Aaron Sorkin’s “Being the Ricardos.” Here’s another one courtesy of Letterboxd:
“Nicole Kidman gives a hollow performance as Lucille Ball that is only made worse by Sorkin’s direction. Seriously that iconic chocolate factory scene was made to look as an SNL skit. What made Sorkin think Lucille Ball was this snarky in real life? The ending of the film is also a disservice to Lucille’s Legacy and is a bit too hopeful for what is suppose to be a tragic telling of Lucille Ball’s life.” www.worldofreel.com/blog/2021/9/bnx7xcof3wtpdzj8d242tplb7pbm3s

Apparently World Of Reel and their "sources" are full of shit. because there is apparently no chocolate factory scene in the movie, which has been claimed in a couple of the sources World Of Reel has cited when talking about the film (my guess is most of World Of Reel's sources come from the owners imagination). Letterboxed has taken down that review as well since it's been reported as fake.
So, what to believe, eh? Sounds like some people are simply making shit up at this point to mute any buzz for this movie. Awards season is brutal, y'all.

Like pacinoyes just said - you have to win your movie first - then your category......... From Jeff Wells ....... 35 to 64 year-olds** have been invited to see Aaron Sorkin‘s Being The Ricardos later this week somewhere in these United States. Word around the campfire is that Javier Bardem‘s performance as Desi Arnaz is the standout aspect, and a likely contender for a Best Supporting Actor Oscar.

We don't know who to believe anymore. Well, the same shit happened with The Tragedy Of Macbeth. It's pretty obvious at this point that a lot of movies/performances during awards season seen as "potential threats" are attempted to be kneecapped early with "bad buzz" by interested parties, even if it is just completely made up. I wouldn't be at all surprised if Kidman is hailed as the standout when all is said and done, and maybe a major threat for Best Actress. But we shall have to wait and see

We don't know who to believe anymore. Yeah...........I wouldn't believe this either tbh...... Read the whole thread and you see a lot of suspect sh it ........maybe true.........maybe not.......the reply below set off my BS detector - ymmv - maybe a fandude/fangirl though ...........you never know....... Anyway, there's nothing "unreliable" about World of Reel website, they got swerved by a false review, they took it down - everybody else did too - they all print the same stuff * Any later in the timeline of Lucy's life would be easier, because she sort of became a caricature of herself as years went on. But '50s is fucking tricky. Kidman just comes through big time. With help from hair and makeup, of course, but it's NicKid herself- her facial expressions, her voice, the inflections, the way she looks down when speaking- God she's so good. I want everyone to see it so we can talk about her.
