This tweet thread gives some context to Being The Ricardos beating Don't Look Up on the streaming charts. BtR debuted 3 days earlier, but DLU is 20 minutes longer so is able to rack up more minutes viewed.

Kidman’s win is pretty much sealed lol. Scrudpuppy kind of won! No one really begrudges Kidman being a two-time winner, though... Sure, they didn't want her to win for this film, but her filmography more than supports the two-time winner label IMO.

I was mainly referencing the doubt over her chances to even be nominated when reviews hit. I have no issues with her winning another Oscar. I’d personally prefer Colman or Stewart, but I’m just glad that it’s not going to Gaga.

Kidman’s win is pretty much sealed lol. Scrudpuppy kind of won! Here's a question: when was the last time someone won an Oscar with nothing but industry precursors to their name? Kidman's only won a Globe and an AACTA; not a single critics' prize or regional has gone to her. Is there a precedent in this era with a billion critics' organizations? (And before someone comes at me -- this is an honest question. When was the last time someone won an Oscar purely off an industry run with zero critics' wins?)

Pretty ridiculous the way people here were completely shitting on Kidman the moment her casting was announced though. And it went on for months and months before a single frame of footage had been seen. It was a feeding frenzy. The disrespect shown to one of our greatest actresses made me wince, and I honestly thought less of a lot of people's judgement here because of it. Sure, it's fair enough to have doubts about someone's casting and express them, but someone as consistently excellent as Kidman deserved better than the derision and even attacks on her appearance what I saw on this forum. I expect that kind of garbage from those flakey fucks on Film Twitter, but for some reason I expected more from this place and was sorely disappointed.

If some McDormand can win three times, i'm pretty sure Nicole Kidman is certainly allowed at least a second win.

Kidman’s win is pretty much sealed lol. Scrudpuppy kind of won! It's an occupational hazard . I rarely back the wrong horses. And despite my many detractors here believing otherwise, I do know a lot of what I'm talking about when it comes to how the industry operates. And I understand talent and how the industry perceives it. To show some humility, I will say that I also don't count any chickens before they hatch, so I'm not calling her win "sealed" till she actually y'know...wins. She's not unstoppable. Just clearly in the best position right now. That could still change. So I'm not here for this jinxing energy.lol! She's the frontrunner for now, and that is enough.

I actually think it's pretty neat that this year is shaping out rather nicely for you, with your two favorites doing so well.

I just begrudge the idea that she might win a second Lead Oscar for this, when it's not even in her top 10 best performances. It just goes to show once again that it's easy to fool the industry playing an icon with some makeup on.

Bullock won a few regionals (Dallas-Fort Worth right off the top of my head). Looking back over her Wiki entry that seems to be the only one listed aside from BFCA (lol), but at least that's one.

Of the top of my head, Sandra Bullock didn't win any regular critics awards. She won the Critics Choice Award, but they are pretty much just an upscale version of the Golden Globes and more an industry thing.

But she proved the naysayers wrong! The industry loves the film and her performance.

Bullock literally won nothing till the industry awards kicked in.

Bullock literally won nothing till the industry awards kicked in. Bullock's Wiki said she won DFW, but the actual critics' group site says Mulligan. So yeah, if we take the latter as the truth, it looks like Bullock probably applies here.

I will say that on the assumption Kidman gets her long overdue 2nd Oscar, she will be on that short list of people I could easily see winning a 3rd ( I could even see her doing it at a similar pace to Frances McDormand. Ie within only a few years of her 2nd). Her body of work/performances and her consistency over 4 decades is monumental and that is very much understood by her peers and within the industry . She is one of the acting GOATs.

While she’s certainly not my Best Actress win this year I always felt her casting was justifiable (much more than Bardem). I thought either her or Blanchett both were worthy of doing the role justice.

Power Of The Dog director and former Kidman director Jane Campion called Kidman to congratulate her on her Oscar nomination and express how much she liked her performance as Lucille Ball.

This week, Being The Ricardos won two significant Guild Awards.
Best Period Decor & Set Design from the Set Decorators Society Of America.
and Best Hairstyling from the Make-Up and Hair Stylists Guild

Impressive stuff from Kidman, training how to capture Lucille Ball's movements and physicality. The woman really puts in the work.
Kidman just won Best Actress at the AARP Movies For Grownups Awards which was broadcast on PBS yesterday. Doesn't make any difference to Chastain's frontrunner status at this point, but I do think Kidman is the only one likely to challenge her for the win.
