This rave from The Times for the film and for Kidman probably didn't hurt any.

I just posted that this movies box office was very dull and flat (I didn't use that term but that's what it's numbers suggested) - and my point was not that streaming movies have to play well in theaters (no shit, I expect DLU to be a big hit anyway) - but that the amount of Box Office - even for streaming titles - conveys some sense of excitement for the movies themselves.......I don't see it for this tbh.
I'm sure it will do fine but this has now played - it's out there - and without a lot of heat.......maybe some for Kidman but nowhere else and not that much for her from what I can see ........this seems the biggest example of advocacy in this years awards race like people "wanting" it to happen more than it organically happening......to me anyway......may get Kidman and Sorkin and that's it maybe?

Palm Springs International Film Festival Career Achievement Award has been a good luck charm of sorts for recent recipients in the Oscae race. The last two recipients Anthony Hopkins and Laura Dern both won their respective Oscar races. Interesting to see if Kidman can keep that streak going.

”In The Hollywood Reporter‘s recent cover story about the film, Kidman explained why fan backlash led both herself and Bardem to attempt to drop out of the film a month prior to production. “Shit, what did we do?” Kidman recalled thinking. “I got frightened.”
After both stars’ agents tried to get them out of the project, producer Todd Black managed to talk the representatives into having their clients stay put. Kidman and Bardem then wanted Sorkin to delay production by a year, but Amazon was eager to move forward as planned.
“So then it was like, ‘Oh, no. Oh, no. We actually have to do this,'” the actress said.”
Yikes! If only she did drop out, could’ve saved herself a lot of embarrassment.

“So then it was like, ‘ Oh, no. Oh, no. We actually have to do this,'” the actress said.” This line is so funny to me Maybe not the best stuff to say if you wanna support your movie but at the same time I kinda appreciate that Kidman is so open about feeling insecure about this role.

Kidman talks like this about most of her roles, so it's not especially newsworthy if you know what she's like. It's almost a schtick at this point, though I do think she's mostly sincere. She's one of the greatest actors of all time, but there is a level humility to how she sees herself, even after nearly 4 decades at the top of her craft. Perhaps it's why she never rests on her laurels and is still able to keep reaching new heights.

The entire article strikes me as something you’d get months later, and after award season. I’m shocked that we’re getting something like this a week after it’s release. Reading that, I get the sense that many knew that the project was in trouble but moved forward anyway.

Kidman and Bardem’s campaign strategy seems to be "we thought we were fucked, we tried to quit, the backlash was making us panick" blahblahblah. It's a move. Whether it's a correct one anyone's guess, but I guess it might help voters feel sorry for them. It's not that dramatic. They are just leaning into the controversy surrounding the casting, to their likely benefit. At the end of the day, Kidman has already won. Acclaimed performance, Golden Globe/Critics Choice nominated performance etc. She is playing with house money now. It's called campaigning...this is about forming a narrative that Kidman was so unfairly treated, thar she really deserves everything she gets going forward.

She also expresses that she doesn’t like how promo was handled, the article says she is insecure about the performance, and Sorkin offers several backhanded compliments in the article as well. I’m not sure what kind of campaigning this is supposed to be.. pity points? Props to them if it works, but I think no one comes off well here, and it come across more as an actor expressing genuine frustration with the project and how it was promoted.

Yeah...you are overthinking this. Kidman is immensely proud of this project and campaigning the shit about it. The woman did an Australian Premiere specifically for this project, because she wanted to show off this film and her performance at home. I've already said its pretty much Kidman’s career long shtick to profess insecurity about most of her work, yet you are acting as if it's supposed to be some sort of revelation to prove that she thinks his project sucks or something. It's who she is dude, and it's 100% on brand for her to say this stuff. You don't know her as well as you think you do.

That Bracco tweet comes off as something an Amazon rep wrote more than something an actual person who was a fan would tweet out. With all the tags and pics included, just feels very manufactured.

Dude, what a weird ass, random conspiracy theory to respond to Bracco's Tweet with . She's an AMPAS member watching a lot of screeners right now, and that is simply how she tweets to tell people what she likes. It ain't that deep. She's not just a "fan". She is also part of the industry and wants to acknowledge the cast and filmmakers of the movies she's watching, so tags them. She also did a similar tweet for Belfast (with tags and pictures also. Guess that makes her a rep for Focus Films as well as Amazon). Or maybe we should just use her tweets as a guide on what many Academy members might be inclined to vote for instead of pretending like she's a paid for shill because you don't like the movie. Food for thought.

I do think Bracco's tastes are a good barometer for a certain branch of the Academy - very old, very white. We knew these voters would eat up Belfast and Being the Ricardos.

Looks like Being The Ricardos was a massive streaming hit. It was #3 in the Neilsen streaming charts on it's debut Christmas week with with 604 million minutes streamed in a chart mostly dominated by classic holiday movies. Don't Look Up came in at #4 on the chart with 521 million minutes streamed, though the article states, it was released on Netflix on Christmas Eve.
