Shit...I saw this tweet and realised Delroy Lindo might actually lowkey be a stealth threat to win the BAFTA, since he's British (which not a lot of people realise). Sounds like he's definitely going to be reminding BAFTA voters on his campaign trail.

I know you love him, but it ain't happening. I don't "love" him. I love the film he is in and think he gives a great performance, but don't expect him to win the Oscar (because Chadwick). I'm spitballing based on a very reasonable assumption (British bias towards their own and him being currently a very competitive player in the Best Actor race, with clear passion behind his performance). Whether it actually happens or not....who gives a shit But it's a reasonable point to spitball. Not a gigantic reach.

Haha sorry, you don't love him, got it BAFTA will go one of two ways, either a) they'll just do what they've been doing more and more lately and default to the frontrunner (Boseman) or b) the British bias will come into play, but for Hopkins. I still think Hopkins is a comfortable #2 right now and the only one with a chance of beating Chadwick.

Yeah...I just wonder how much advantadge Hopkins will actually have with "British bias" this year, considering so many legit contenders have the "British card" to play as well. Lindo, Ahmed, Oldman. They may just go for whichever "British" performance they like the most (which may not be Tony's), or as you say, default to the frontrunner and give it to Chadwick.

If you didn't know his background and just listen to an interview of him for Da 5 Bloods or something you would be forgiven for thinking he was an American.

It probably helps that he's had such an international upbringing. Born in London, went to Canada in his youth, and then finally America as a struggling performer, where he’s lived for the past twenty five + years.

He emigrated when he was 12 and hasn't lived here for any substantial amount of time since, as far as I know.

Lindo himself says he still regards himself as British, so it'd be a bit weird to tell the man himself what he is or isn't. He actually returns to the UK regularly and has starred in British film productions like Wondrous Oblivion (2003). Naomi Watts left the UK for Australia when she was 14 and still considers herself British (and Australian. Which ever acting population is most popular at the time ). And she probably lived most of her adult life in America. I think if you were born somewhere and spend the first 12 years of your life there, not sure if someone has the right to tell you you are not from that place. It's not like Lindo left as a toddler. 12 years from birth is a lot and formative.

If hometown favorite Taren Egerton couldn't win for playing a British icon, the odds are much worse for Delroy Lindo winning BAFTA. And Egerton even won the Globe.

He never said outright he doesn't feel British. The writer of the article editorialised that view for him because he made very honest comments about not being able to achieve what he has without leaving England. I suspect his views about his British identity are mixed, like many people from an immigrant background. A lot of African-Americans will make similar comments/criticisms about America. Doesn't mean they don't see themselves as American. Even reading the interview, you can tell he keeps up with what is happening in current British life.

Not only that, but the first Korean actor to be nominated for Best Actor (and the third Asian actor overall for the category after Yul Brynner and Ben Kingsley). It's kinda surprising that more of a big deal isn't being made about it.

I'm still thinking Lindo gets in, Oldman goes out. Maybe even Yeun.

People who think Oldman will miss feel like the people last season who kept on saying that Leo would miss.

Not really, Leo had a lot more going for it- big box office hit, arguably the biggest movie star in the world in his first role in four years, a lock for a supporting actor win, two big movie stars and a director very well-liked in the industry, a movie that had lots of industry appeal for it's ending specially, etc. Mank has none of that.

DiCaprio was always considered the third spot behind only Phoenix and Driver, Pryce was the fifth spot.
The last spot this year seems to be Oldman or Yeun who will fight for it against Lindo.

Are you saying that Oldman, Lindo and Yeun are all fighting for the 5th spot?? Because if that's the case, then who do you have in 4th behind Boseman, Hopkins and Ahmed??

I have the three locks in Boseman, Hopkins, and Ahmed, then honestly, the other three to me can be interchangeable.
