Some late random thoughts:
- Woah, Ex Machina missed? If I remember correctly the old board went batshit insane for it.
- Nobody voted for All is Lost lol. Red_Identity must be fucking piiiissed.
- I like First Reformed a lot... but I'm happy it's not higher than #50
- Phenomenal reviews all around. Great job everyone!

And now for your special presentation!
Wow, that was beautiful. Thanks for putting this together (you're on a roll with making these lately!).

I just checked my ballot and the only movie I voted for and didn't make the cut was Winter's Bone... I'm happy that 19 of my favorite flicks made it, but since many of them were pretty safe, maybe I should've ranked WB higher on my list - it barely missed.
Correction: The Kid With a Bicycle also missed it.

Reading the comments was a bit rough though - the hell is up with all the negativity? Yeah I wasn't gonna say anything but I have to second this, it's not the most terribly exciting thing in the world to see so many passionate, highly eloquent write-ups honoring films that are obviously appreciated by so many board members followed by dozens of variations on "this is shit and y'all are dumb for disagreeing with me". Like, cool diss, thank you for the detailed input. It's a poll with 65 participants, not everyone will vote the same (and even if we did, the list would be dismissed as boring and predictable anyway). There are films that made the cut that I highly dislike, but who am I to moan that the ranking is not exactly how I'd have it when it's so awesome to see so much effort and passion going into celebrating cinema that resonates with others. I understand this view. I just like being passionate, it isn't meant to be personal at all. I can absolutely understand why every film is on this list, but it is just as fun to give a good yell for movies I didn't like as ones that I did. It adds to the sporting event atmosphere for me. I'm sorry if that bothered anyone else, I'll try to reign it in next time.

Reading the comments was a bit rough though - the hell is up with all the negativity? Generally speaking with these presentation things, I'm just consistently surprised people have the energy to hate SO MANY MOVIES sometimes it's hard to figure out if it's just the placement that's annoying everyone (I know there's the best of the decade-ness of it all) but it's always a little weird when peeps start handing out 3/10 level reviews and comments so freely for like, some pretty well made and/or innocuous movies lol Usually with these lists I'm not noticing much of anything that I give less than like a 7. Occasionally the random 5 or less, usually down to personal hangups....we all watch movies in our own way, I guess, but man the reason I'm such a movie fanatic is that I usually like something in just about everything I see. I'm enough of a cinephile that I've seen all but about a dozen of these films and even the ones I'm least crazy about I'd hardly dismiss...but I get that hate-watching is a thing and all... I hate a lot of movies. But even the ones I truly abhor (and there are two in particular that made this list) have something I enjoy about them, and I can absolutely understand the passion everyone has.

I got 8 out 25, and none of the ones that missed out really had a chance (I'm likely the only vote for the majority of them).

Eh tone is a fucky thing on the internet. You can yell something out or take the piss in all good playful spirit and people take it as bitter or downright toxic. Emojis help sometimes but that can also make someone come across like they're a dumbass lol.

Also I've honestly always suspected there are cultural and language barriers at play. Even simple things like UK humor intersecting with American humor. It doesn't always vibe right, especially over text.

I'm the exact same way. I'm a very forgiving film-goer. I watch films because I love films. Even the films I hate, I hate because they either disgrace the art form (I'm talking films like Little Fockers and Epic Movie) or they purely don't gel with my taste or are made in a mean spirit (like Boudu Saved from Drowning) and yet I'm still willing to listen to and respect the feelings of others who might enjoy these films.

Portrait of a Lady on Fire is the highest-ranked film directed by a woman, at #38. I'm curious if anyone else voted for Mustang. Love the hell out of that film. A haunting depiction of culturally arrested girlhood. One other person did ... didn't note down who it was, though.

So, for mop-up "did anyone else vote for them" questions... Was I the only vote for Madoka Magica: Rebellion? Or did it manage to sneak into Moviesinner's ballot (unlikely)? Let's see... Paterson. I'm surprised that it didn't make the list, not even in the honorable mentions. Also Princess Kaguya, which probably remains pretty underseen. Nope, you were its only vote. Six-way tie at #174 with the other top-ranked films no one else voted for. Paterson was at #161 ... 5 of us voted for it, but basically all pretty low on our ballots. Probably my favorite film that didn't make the final list. Princess Kaguya was pretty close at #113. Disappointed that missed as well.

Ones where I might have been the only vote- Voyage of Time Exit Through the Gift Shop The Missing Picture Escape From Tomorrow Exit Through the Gift Shop got one other vote and finished at #124. You were the only vote for the other three, though.

Great list and great work with the list. Some movies are surprisinlgy high and some I am surprised they missed. Love, love, love the top 3, and The Social Network (best movie of the first half of the decade) and Parasite (best movie of the second half of the decade) being #1 and #2. A good 9 of the films I voted for were did not make the list, of which most surprising to miss was Ex Machina.

Great poll, tremendously presented. Awesomely organizized Was a blast reading it, shame I couldn't be here for it live because it looked like it was a lot of fun! folks getting bent out of shape over all the negativity should chill. As far back as I can remember pissing and moaning about these presentations is the highlight of being present for them. They're just movies, it ain't that serious.

Wow, Endgame made it in 2 ballots (including mine, I assume) and had a decent number of points. Cool. On the other hand, I'm sad that I really was the only one who voted for Toy Story 4.

Can we all give a round of applause for whoever put Sharknado 2 on their ballot?
Is the movie as awesome as it sounds? Because it sounds really awesome.

Can we all give a round of applause for whoever put Sharknado 2 on their ballot? Shit, I made a mental note to myself to make a joke about that at some point and then totally forgot It was urbanpatrician if I recall correctly.

Yeah, I reckon Get Out and especially Ex Machina missing the cut were the biggest surprises for me. A couple years ago I definitely would have had the latter in my own list, and I still like it quite a bit, but I mainly remember it for Vikander's performance now - hope to see her included in the performances poll.

First off, a huge motherfucking thank you to DeepArcher ! Great presentation and as Tommen_Saperstein said, how great it is that people can sit down and write their hearts out for a film they truly love. Isn't that why we're all here? The negativity to the point of personal degradation from some was a huge turn-off (it generally is with this forum if I'm honest). Especially when you see that others are writing about films they love, it feels like an attack on one's self and their passion, and I don't really stand for that. That being said, cheesecake 's montage put this all in perspective. It was a lovely comedown from an otherwise blood-pressure-raising read-through of comments and helped to illustrate why we - or maybe just me - subject ourselves to reading all these harrowing comments: because it's all for the same, shared passion. Overall, of course, I'm not entirely thrilled with this list. Very few films I actually dislike here, but just not indicative of my taste as a whole. But I read each and every review and quite a few actually enticed me to revisit some of the films I once disliked. Here's a list of some of my favorite reviews, and in particular quite a few that changed my perspective on some (those will be marked with an asterisk): All of chris3 's reviews, particularly Portrait of a Lady on Fire (my favorite review here I think) Tommen_Saperstein 's reviews of Under the Skin* (my second favorite review here and makes me want to re-watch it right now considering I really didn't like the movie before) and Inside Llewyn Davis* notacrook 's reviews of Moonlight, Her, and The Florida Project* DeepArcher 's reviews of Certified Copy and Inherent Vice* themoviesinner 's reviews of Winter Sleep and Meek's CutoffMartin Stett 's reviews of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, Tower, Phoenix and The Wind Risestherealcomicman117 's reviews of O.J.: Made in America and Boyhood* stephen 's reviews of You Were Never Really Here and The Lighthousependragon 's review of A SeparationZeb31 's reviews of Birdman and Elle* Viced 's reviews of The Irishman and The Wolf of Wall Streetwonky 's review of It's Such a Beautiful DaySharbs 's reviews of Drive and Moneyball* Ryan_MYeah 's reviews of The Social Network and Zero Dark Thirty* Mattsby 's reviews of Black Swan and The Master* pacinoyes ' review of Amour* speeders ' review of Whiplash@redhawk10 's review of Silence* Films I still need to see:Carol. The Hunt. It's Such a Beautiful Day. Mysteries of Lisbon. Phoenix. Margaret. The Wind Rises. Winter Sleep. The Other Side of the Wind.Highlights of the list for me (most mainly due to their rankings and/or surprising presence): The Social Network. Drive. Blade Runner 2049. The Place Beyond the Pines. Burning. The Illusionist. Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy. O.J.: Made in America. Meek's Cutoff. Shoplifters. I Saw the Devil.Lowlights for me (really just the first two, but the others I'm just not sure should be in a top 100 list): Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri. 1917. Lincoln. Bridge of Spies. Spotlight.Films from my list that didn't make the cut:Beginners. It Follows. Bullhead. Short Term 12. Young Adult. Waves. Cloud Atlas. Blue Valentine. Enter the Void. Celeste & Jesse Forever. The Drop. Killer Joe. The Babadook.Only real downside of this list is the lack of racially diverse films. Outside of foreign films, there were only three films here with black protagonists, one of which was a true-crime documentary on O.J. and another was playing a slave. More films like Moonlight deserved to make it (and kind of baffled Get Out and Spider-Verse missed out). That being said, I really appreciate the diverse selection of female-oriented films (and that more than a handful of female-directed films made the cut all things considered). Can't wait to see how the performances poll goes!
