My only real complaint is that there is someone else out there who could have had a chance to compete. Somebody who isn't on the team because of this. And I don't really buy that you will suddenly feel "unwell" in the middle of a competition and have to pull out. Call me backwards - please do, it will fill out my insult bingo card - but I have always been taught that if you are doing a job, in sports, work or anything else in life, you don't just bail if you're not feeling it. You suck it up and do the job. That doesn't mean that you can't take time for your mental health, it means that you don't take that time after you have made a commitment to participate. Do you complain if someone goes to the Olympics when their muscles unexpectedly didn't fully recover from a previous injury and they have to quit in the middle of a competition? I simply think that having a nervous breakdown isn't much different than a muscle tear. To me, it seems like a simple thing of "suck it up." Do your job, fail or don't. I'm a referee for soccer, and fucking believe me, I've wanted to throw in the towel because of the damned idiots that gather around the field (usually, the players are fine until they've been infected by the moronic coaches), but I don't give up after I have accepted the match, or after the match has started. I've been injured in a match. I collided with a player, got concussed. I was sprinting on the sideline, hit the flag and busted by heel. I've taken a ball shot into my testicles. I've never backed out of an assigment because of my mental health, and if ever there was a job that will break your morale, it is refereeing. I have decided to take time off because this job can and will wear you down, but I've never had an "unexpected" mental health emergency. I finish my assignments, because I committed to them.

Good for you. Apparently you never had a serious mental illness nor a serious injury. Yup. It is good for me. And good for Ms. Biles to have the luxury of dropping out of a commitment because she is feeling stressed. Stress is real, but stress is not unexpected. I don't really care one way or the other about her - she's her own person, she has nothing to do with me. I care about my own integrity, of making a vow and sticking by it. Referees quit all the time because of the high stress involved, but I've never seen one say that he's done in the middle of a game. One time I saw a guy at a tournament finish a game, walk to the ref tent and throw his uniform in the trash the moment he was done. Good guy, I always liked him. I never saw him again. That's okay. I get it. But I cannot look at somebody starting their job and then quitting in the middle because of mental health reasons.

She was allowed to get doping drugs in the past because of her adhd disorder. If you can't be 100% concentrated, you might get injured like Samantha Cerio. A referee can simply take a bad decision. On a side note, my youngest son was a referee for kids basketball. Aggressive parents are way worse than bad coaches.

That was a great race. He just saved his energy and blew by everybody at the end. I'm enjoying the distance swimming because the strategy of how much to leave in the tank is interesting.

Fantastic win from Stubblety-Cook. Continuing the tradition of Aussies dashing everyone else's dreams in the last stretch. Chalmers almost did it too

Ledecky is such a boss. Would have been so clutch if they'd won that relay but coming back for silver is fine too.

I can't wait for the distance running to start...
Also, if I could not hear about Biles for like 10 minutes, I'd be so happy.

Hell of a competition. Just like the mens the day before. Those top 4 were all so fucking close, it sucks that one of them had to miss out.

When 3 teams break the world record it's pretty stupid to say that any of them disappointed, but this looked like such a sure thing for the Aussies, and they (comparatively) fucked it up so bad. Ledecky just when she was looking like she was going to have a by her standards pretty unremarkable Games comes through with the swim of her fucking life 10 more meters and the gold was hers. What a race.

Big congrats to Lee. Thought the Brazilian girl was going to win the whole time but Lee did dramatically better on the floor routine.

Must be some sort of mental block for Novak in the Olympics. He had to beat one decent player in the entire tournament to clinch the title, and he couldn't do that. Doesn't seem like he will win a gold after all, or will he appear on the next olympics as well?

Doubt it........ He should be thankful for his bronze this year (if he gets that) .......and get his head right for the US Open ................because what today showed is you play aggressive and overpower him you can surprise - today's match just gave a lot of hope to the young bucks in tennis........

Yeah, seems reasonable. Let's see if he can grab that US Open title. Should be a lot harder than Wimbledon actually and there should be a fair few that could give a match there, but he should be the big favorite to win the title.

My 7th grade crush is on the US women's 8 rowing team. Really rooting for her and her team in the finals tonight.
