This Delta variant is no joke. Still, looks like my region may jump a stage and be on track with everyone else. I'm going to legit cry when I get to see a movie.

Yeah, Los Angeles just doubled its cases in a week. I think wearing the mask is the key. We are basically where we ere in January. The people who refused to wear a mask are not gonna start now so it is up to the people who were okay with it.

69.69% of Canada's population has received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine.

Have you been following how the anti-vax crowd is currently hung up on this vaccine shedding stuff, so now many are actually starting to wear masks to protect themselves from the vaccinated?

Well not enough of them are doing it to slow the spread. Cases are rising big time in parts of the States We only got 57% vaccinated and practically all the restrictions have been lifted. And there's just a huge chunk of ppl in this country that will just never get the vaccine. They're too far gone. Too much Tucker Carlson has turned their brains to mush. I CAN'T DEAL WITH THIS BULLSHIT

The one good thing about another 4 weeks of lockdown is that I can finesse 3k out of the government for doing absolutely jackshit.

Interesting thread about entertainment labor, namely the out-of-work actors finding jobs in astro-turf campaigns.

I'm so tired. Most of our cases are those that are unvaccinated. School starts soon and I'm not sure what precautions I'm stepping into and my sister is posting articles about how it is harmful for kids to be masked. I'm not allowed to meet her new baby because I'm vaccinated and my mom is upset that I'm missing out on "essential bonding time." Tonight on the way to the convenience store there were some people smoking outside who called me a fucking idiot for having a mask on, did some loud intentional coughing in my direction and told me to "dance, monkey, dance." What is wrong with people?

What is wrong with people? It is called mass psychosis, and people on the left and on the right are falling into it wholeheartedly. In short (and keep in mind that I'm not a doctor and may be wrong on details), psychosis is a reordering of values based on a perceived threat, making people do things that they would not normally do. If you think of a schizophrenic being told by voices in his head that certain statues have government monitoring equipment tracking him, he will do the logical thing and avoid or destroy those statues. It's simply common sense. If people are being told that Covid will kill us all and that we must vaccinate everyone to stay safe, they will do what is logical and force vaccinations or vaccinations IDs. If people are being told that the government is trying to control us with fear and that the vaccines are part of a government plot to monitor and control us, they will do what's logical and fight against government interfering in their lives, and begin talking about the end of days. Both sides are pushed by fear to reorder their values and turn "the other" into "the enemy." I'm far closer to the paranoid conspiracy nut wing of this debate, btw - I think they're far closer to the truth than people realize. But both sides have created bubbles in which "the other" must be defeated. And so both sides have lost grip of reality, but believe that they're the only sane people in the room.

this is why we can't have nice things The problem is that the people in charge are part of the problem. One day, they tell you to take off the mask, then three days later they tell you to put it back on. There is no consistency. In addition to all that people are not listening and using common sense.

That's true but you can't tell who is and who isn't that is why it is best to proceed with caution. Wearing a mask shouldn't be political.

When it comes to the vaccine, only one ide had lost grip on reality and it really isn’t debatable. I don't mean to be rude, but that thinking is precisely the problem. If people truly believe that they are right and "the other" is wrong and there is nothing to debate, they open the door to suppressing "the other" which only makes that side more radical as they become more marginalized. In this case, I see an idiotic right wing who are needlessly paranoid about medicine, and a totalitarian left wing that is proving the paranoia correct by refusing to work with the concerns of the right. If the right is scared that the government wants to number them and track them now, just wait until the left actually begins doing it because they have made the decision that the unvaccinated are too dangerous to be allowed freedom of movement or economy. Both sides are escalating against a perceived threat. Think of the Patriot Act and how that was framed as protecting Americans against terrorists. Now think of how people are being denied the right to eat at certain restaurants (at the left's bidding, as the American government can not legally do this). A small thing, for sure... but then comes the point when the unvaccinated can't go to a mall, or shop at a grocery store, or be allowed in any private business or public building. This will provoke an even HARDER turn away from coexistence. The fear on both sides is starting an avalanche of escalation. A state of fear is not healthy for a man or for a nation.
