This cast obviously isn't doing this movie as some sort of art project for minimum wage. Everyone is probably getting paid. I imagine Bale and Robbie getting at least 15 million bucks each upfront. DeNiro loves his money, so he could probably negotiate 10 million based on his name. Rami Malek fresh of an Oscar for a billion dollar movie he was leading could probably negotiate 10 million as well. Zoe Saldana has been around long enough cashing Marvel checks that her agent could probably say she deserves at least 8 million. Hot rising stars like John David Washington and Anya Taylor-Joy could probably get 5 million dollars each at least (maybe more for JDW). The rest of the cast salaries ( Chris Rock, Matthias Schonearts, Mike Myers, Timothy Olyphant, Micheal Shannon etc) probably totals up to 30 million. Russell himself probably takes 12 mill for writing and directing (plus back end). That's like well over 100 million dollars just to pay the "talent". And I am probably being conservative in how much these people are being paid. Not that any of that is an excuse for such a ridiculous budget. But I can see where the money is going if the cast/crew is commanding their full quotes.

I don't think it's absolutely true, someone on IMBD must have inflated it. Not even Scorsese can command such a huge budget like this.
I think in reality it must be around the OUATIH type of budget (90-100 Million).

Nobody is financing a Bale-Robbie comedy-drama for $250M, especially during these uncertain times. American Hustle with a similarly stacked cast was made for $40M (and probably profit participation for the cast and DOR) and made like $250M at the box-office. If this budget is true, it would need to make twice that just to break even. Never going to happen.
IMDb is like Wikipedia where pretty much anybody can edit some of these things. Pretty sure this is nonsense.

I saw it on IMDb yesterday and thought it was some kind of joke. May someone from the staff mistakenly added a 2 in front of the 50?

Agreeing with Pavan. It must be $50 million.

Agreeing with Pavan. It must be $50 million. It probably is an error, but the reason it almost feels possible in this day and age is because of the insane money you sometimes hear about streaming services paying for stars and content. I mean Netflix is paying 450 million dollars for two Knives Out sequels, which by any reasonable standard sounds insane. But it happened. I was thinking maybe this movie was going to end up going to a streamer.

I was thinking maybe this movie was going to end up going to a streamer. But that's a different thing - Netflix paid this shitload of money for the deal to get the rights. It's been reported that the production budgets for the sequels will be similar to the first movie, which was $40 million.

With Apple spunking out a 200 million dollar budget for Killers Of The Flower Moon, it no longer seems that far fetched for streamers looking for clout to spend that kind of money to acquire prestige star drama vehicles, whether they are paying for the rights or the budget.

No traditional studio would spend that kind of money on a DOR film. Still i think its an IMDb error and the real budget most likely would be something around $50m.

David O. Russell is at it again: I'm thinking this is going to be more or less like American Hustle. Whether or not that's good is subject to interpretation.

It's almost as if David O'Russell wants to compete with Adam McKay and his Don't Look Up star studded cast. "Oh yeah, motherfucker, you got Ariana Grande?? Then I'll take Taylor Swift, how's that??".

Probably a 2 min cameo. Its bumming me that we still don't know a thing about this film except the cast and crew involved.
