I read Bill Skarsgard might not be in this anymore. Yeah, that's what I heard too. I think it might be because of scheduling conflicts with his Netflix series. Damn shame if it's true, was really looking forward to seeing him in this.

Ethan Hawke joins the cast of The Northman. Damn, this cast is stacked as hell!
This will be a dream for Hawke, who as well as being an excellent actor himself, knows how to discuss and analytically break down the craft and intricacies of acting better than almost any actor around. So he"ll get a kick out of watching performers like Kidman and Dafoe at work and analysing their techniques and what makes them so effective.

I didn't find any source on Bill dropping this movie, it all started as a rumor when someone from production (or maybe a minor cast) posted a wall with photos of the actors and we couldn't see his picture there. I'd say he's still in it.

This is actually pretty neat because Eggers has mentioned that The Northman is very much a Viking take on the Hamlet story, and Hawke is one of the predominant living actors to have played the Dane. You gotta think he'd be doing this movie for free if he could.

Wow, that just increased my interest for the film ten-fold. Hawke is an incredible risk-taker of an actor, and while he doesn't always star in the best movies (anyone remember the atrocious Getaway? I only saw it because it was at my college), his participation must mean that the material is quite a bit daring.

So sad. I was excited to see Alexander and Bill together, esp with the rest of the ensemble. They better get someone good.

Too bad he's busy shooting The Batman, not to mention battling Covid.

TIFF 2021 please and thank you. Only if it gets a competition berth at Venice first.

2021 is already over-crowded with 2020 leftovers, if it's in post now than I would bet on a 2022 release. Maybe a Palme d'Or run at Cannes?

I guess that's the next logical step after the peeing scene in The Paperboy.

I'd strongly suggest everyone read the Wikipedia story on the source text Amleth This just screams great movie when you read the full text of the source story....and perfect casting and I don't even like all these actors but it seems so right.......not hemmed in by any Shakespearean text like a straight Hamlet would be.........and it was already filmed and apparently botched so I guess they know what NOT to do The legend was taken as the basis of a 1994 film by Gabriel Axel, Prince of Jutland (also known as Royal Deceit), with Gabriel Byrne as Fenge, Helen Mirren as Geruth and Christian Bale as Amled.en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amleth

Wikipedia's reporting a partial cast of characters:
Take the characters' names with a grain of salt because anyone can edit them, but come on, Willem Dafoe is playing a FOOL!
