I'm already in bc of Eggers - one of the major new directors this decade next to Yorgos? btw Kidman will have worked with both in the last ten years not to mention Park Chan-wook and Herzog. I like the cast a lot except for Alexander Skarsgard who I've never really liked - not in True Blood (where his name was Northman btw, oo!), definitely not in The Little Drummer Girl, ok he was pretty good in BLL (where Kidman's the wife, now the mother - ha!) but that was a side role he didn't have to center it like this. Another thing: Eggers is I don't wanna say revolutionizing the period piece but it'll do for now - with his attention to design and, notably, dialect. Keep 'em coming, I say. He's also the only director I could remotely fathom pulling off an adaptation of Darconville's Cat but I digress!

Eggers is the most promising and unique new filmmaker working. This is going to something else.

I've only seen The Witch, and I found it technically impressive but conceptually film school. I'm not convinced he has a firm grasp of storytelling at this point.

Might as well just get Stellan to play the dad.

"Conceptually film school" what the hell does that mean? The storytelling in the The Witch was brilliant, subtle and layered. It was a psychological deconstruction of spiritual repression and self-loathing, an embodiment of the self-fulfilling prophecy of what you fear most coming to destroy you. Name one film from this century that has tackled those themes as forcefully or with as much focus as The Witch did, let alone from the horror genre. These bad takes need to stop.

Alright, I like the cast/story. Eggers is on a roll now though lets take it slow. This could go either way.

People having opinions needs to stop /s. I never said that so I don't know how you got that from my post. Calling a film "conceptually film school" is dismissive and pretentious.

You literally replied to his post saying "these bad takes need to stop", while all he was doing was stating his opinion.

I'm confident Eggers will deliver the goods here. Loved The Lighthouse and liked the VVitch for the most part. I see so much potential here so I'll keep an eye on this film for sure.

Bjork has officially signed on as a character known as "the Slav Witch." Kate Dickie and Ralph Ineson are also reuniting with Eggers.
