So what does this mean for the guys from Poor Things? That the both of them will get Oscar nominations. Ideally, but who knows at this point.

I'm feeling more and more confident about Payne in Director. I’m sticking with Nolan, Marty, Yorgos, Payne and Glazer. Been saying since like November. You really want to see Twitter explode, right?

Who do you guys think was the second non-jury pick in director besides Nolan?

No Lily Gladstone?! I had her pegged as the Best Actress winner at the Oscars. How many winners in that category miss a nomination at BAFTA and win the Academy Award?

Jessica Chastain missed, but so did everyone that was nominated in Best Actress that year at the Oscars. Which paved the way for the actual best actress of 2021, Joanna Scanlan, to take the Oscar. Before that, it was Bullock. And before that, Hilary Swank for Million Dollar Baby, but that movie was a super-late release and I don't think it qualified for that year.

Chastain did, but none of the BAFTA nominees were nominated at the Oscars that year so it was irrelevant. Before that, Sandra Bullock, who had no real competition that year as the BAFTA winner that year (Mulligan) was a newcomer back then and Streep was in a really weak film. I don't see how Gladstone can recover from this.

You know what? I wish that had happened too. She's better than the Oscar nominees that year combined.

I don't see how Gladstone can recover from this. Her only path that I see is she wins the SAG and Stone loses BAFTA. Bonus points if she loses it to someone who doesn't get the Oscar nomination. But Gladstone can't lose the SAG if she wants to win the Oscar.

No Andrew Scott? Bruh.
Call me crazy but I honestly think this snub will help Gladstone a lot.

Call me crazy but Andrew Scott is giving me Charlotte Rampling vibes. AND THEY ARE BOTH IN A ANDREW HAIGH FILM.

No Scott and Gladstone is wild. Well, the jury system is just pointless now, huh? lmao
The Holdovers is Oppenheimer’s biggest threat in BP. I’ve been feeling it for a while, but this was the confirmation I needed.
Best Director is absolutely insane at the moment. Nolan is a lock. Scorsese should be fine. I think Payne is looking very likely at the moment considering they like him and love the film. Final two spots between Lanthimos, Glazer, Triet and Gerwig.

You really want to see Twitter explode, right? I'm dying to see the uproar if Gerwig was snubbed In a year that will likely have three films by female directors nominated for Best Picture a snub of Gerwig, Triet and Song would cause an #oscarssowhite type of uproar.
Until now I thought it wouldn't happen because Payne would miss out but The Holdovers now looks so strong that he'll likely make it in.
Best chance to have a female director is now that Triet takes that Cannes winning auteur spot that has become a staple in the last years instead of Glazer. Or maybe Lanthimos misses, after BAFTA nothing seems too crazy anymore.
