Man, I love Shelley Winters in a good Western. I guess The Scalphunters isn't gonna figure here, but you wanna talk about a scene-stealer.

Although I think The Magnificent Seven is more considered a classic than a true classic, I do love me some Wallach as Calvera.

Dang, El Topo just missed the Top 25. Still glad it got some love, though. I remember a time when no one talked about it on the old board.

No genre sets itself up for revisionism like Westerns have over the years and we have several that could be called revisionist already from within the classic period even - great stuff so far - quite a range of titles!

Interestingly, I think one could make an argument that playing a Western straight these days would be re-revisionist.

I was actually thinking about this when watching a bunch of Boetticher/Scott westerns over the summer. What if someone today made a western with that same exact formula? Like a Good German-esque thing.

This is the 2nd Western I'm specifically going to say needs a second watch to really get - I mean I don't know if the dreamy quality can get through on one watch. Jarmusch doesn't tip his hand much here you have to get it on his terms......

Yeah, or have a filmmaker who's known for being subversive and edgy come out and just play it so straight that you have people puzzling over it for hidden clues and meaning.
