Not too many surprises aside from the nods for 'All the Money in the World' and the snubs of Gerwig in Director and Peele in Screenplay.
Really happy for Machlachlan, but I kept scrolling down the page expecting to see more for Twin Peaks and that didn't happen...

I wonder if Spacey was pissed that Christopher Plummer got a nod. ^THIS

Pleasantly surprised to see Ridley here. So much Dunkirk, The Post and The Shape of Water Yes, I think that Get Out and Lady Bird are definitely top 5, but I think it's interesting that Gerwig and Peele couldn't get Best Director nominations here. Aren't the Globes usually a good precursor? (I could be wrong, but this is pretty good for Spielberg who I was a little worried about after The Post didn't do so well yesterday.) Also, Get Out missed screenplay, so maybe it loses comedy/musical after all because I guess it's true they really didn't like it. I think it will still can win Best Original Screenplay, but this was a slight bump in the road for it. They tend to go their own way with Director pretty often. At this point, I can see Gerwig and Peele both getting in.

so are we ruling out Get Out as a frontrunner for Original Screenplay now? and can we also agree that the noms for All the Money in the World are primarily political and basically throwaway nominations that have little to no bearing on the rest of the awards season? It's the HFPA saying "fuck you" to Spacey while saluting those involved with ousting him from the picture. No and Yes Get Out is obviously going to get nominated, but I think the clear frontrunner now is Three Billboards.

I'd never have believed at the beginning of the year that Neon and STX would be doing better than a company fresh off of 3 Oscar wins with a slate including films by Allen, Haynes, Linklater, Gray, and a Sundance darling. i know for a fact that the removal of imdb boards is a big part of amazon's half-assery performance this year.

Alright! Decent BP Drama list. I think that award could boil down between The Shape of Water, The Post, and Dunkirk. But the others I find kinda questionable. Like: Get Out for BP Musical/Comedy. How a movie like The Boss Baby got nominated for BP Animated Ansel Elgort (Baby Driver) for Best Musical/Comedy Actor. Um, sure? Daniel Kaluuya (Get Out) for Best Musical/Comedy Actor. Again... But I guess I can't complain about Get Out receiving, at least, some acknowledgement for the awards in that manner. The nominations for both Plummer and Elgort do seem like subtle jabs towards Spacey. With the latter also being the HFPA way of cautiously acknowledging something Baby Driver related. So not even a Director nod for Edgar Wright, if they had the ability to make that happen. The snubs for movies like The Big Sick, A Ghost Story, and The Florida Project seem a bit surprising.

I'm so disappointed with the lack of Twin Peaks (esp Lynch and Janey-E ) and this Big Little Lies overdose. I mean, it was pretty good and entertaining and all but didn't quite deserve this much of nods.. esp Laura Dern, who instead should've gotten in for Twin Peaks 😏 Oh and Feud as well :/

Terrible the Award that rewarded Weinstein 4 decades, didn't nominate any woman as best director. Corrupt Globes!!!
