This is a safe place...admit some of your movie buff 'failings' here.
I've never seen a film by Ingmar Bergman, Federico Fellini, Jean-Luc Godard, Akira Kurosawa and some others in that bracket of 'foreign' film makers, beloved of cinephiles.

I love propaganda
I've barely touched 1930s-40s films
I seldom watch films directed by women. This isn't on purpose but I have noticed it.
I have seen 2 Kiarostami, 2 Herzog, 2 Cassavettes, 1 Antonioni, 0 Rohmer, 0 Ray, 0 Angelopolous, and 0 Akerman films

I've seen only one Satyajit Ray film (Pather Panchali) and that was years ago so I hardly remember it.

Haven't seen quite a few "essential" classic Hollywood epics, à la Lawrence Of Arabia, Gone With The Wind, Ben-Hur, and need to check out a lot more silent cinema, especially Griffith - Intolerance, Broken Blossoms, Way Down East all look good but I'm obviously going to start with Birth Of A Nation.
Directors: (give me recs on where to start with these ones, please) Rivette Mike Leigh Nuri Bilge Ceylan Wong Kar Wai Jodorowsky Herzog Fassbinder Melville

I seldom watch films directed by women. This isn't on purpose but I have noticed it. Me too, and it definitely isn't on purpose either. Unless it's a film I'm anticipating, then half the time I don't even know who directed a film until I notice in the opening or closing credits.

Directors: (give me recs on where to start with these ones, please) Mike Leigh Start at the beginning with Bleak Moments. The first Leigh I saw was Another Year, back in 2010. I fell in love with that film and decided I would see everything he has ever made. Other than a couple of short films and a few TV films, I've done that and he is my favourite filmmaker now. The reason I say to start from the beginning, is that you really can see him develop over time as a filmmaker and a voice, but the kernels are still there to see with Bleak Moments.

I have no shame in it, but I rarely ever watch silent or foreign language films.

I have no shame in it, but I rarely ever watch silent or foreign language films. Silent is semi-understandable, but why not "foreign language" films? I know this is going to sound snotty or condescending, but I genuinely don't know how anyone could be so restrictive with a medium they like. It doesn't make sense to me. There's so much to vastly explore internationally that only watching a film if it's in the English language seems weird, personally.

Because it takes me forever to catch up on the English language movies as it is, adding in all of world cinema would just bury me. It's not that I refuse to see films in other languages, it's just they are very low on the priority list.

I don't watch movies from my country (Portugal). I've watched some and they were great though. But man, the language/accent from Portugal (not from Brazil, which sounds "cooler") can be very pretentious, the way the actors talk in most movies is just weird and unnatural. I am a very patriotic person despite everything but I'm more interested in watching English-language films -- American and British films

I have a soft spot for disaster and werewolf films.
I haven't seen anything from Bunuel, Antonioni, Melville, Mizoguchi, Altman.
