Zulawski's The Devil (1972) - had never seen this before though it has quite a reputation and it's a striking piece of work imo. Some scenes have a mad power especially early on. Not as all out nuts as Possession but more coherent, some of it functioning as pitch black comic grotesque vignettes too. Some of it reminded me of The Witch, surprisingly in its compositions.
I'd be curious what people think of it if you've seen it, I think if I knew the political overtones I'd like it more too or at least the stuff that didn't make literal sense may have made a bit more allegorical sense at least.

Insidious- A few cool moments, but ultimately boring and repetitive.

The Exorcist III - ***. Still good with a commanding lead from Scott, but you can really tell where the studio put their influence.

So I watched what may be considered the first and oldest 'horror' film made by Georges Méliès. It's a silent film called 'The Haunted Castle (1896)', or 'Le Manoir du Diable' with some impressive special effects for its time. It didn't intended to be a horror film at first, but it did end up scaring moviegoers at the time for its theme. I recommend you guys to check this out if you're a horror enthusiasts, or just like films in general. It available online to watch.

Dracula (1931)- 5/10. Honestly would be lower if not for Lugosi's iconic performance.

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2- This was such a pleasant surprise. Probably the most fun I've had watching a movie since It- I mean, how could you not love Dennis Hopper duel wielding chainsaws?
Also, it was probably the scariest movie I've seen so far this month (particularly the introduction of Chop Top, that shit was terrifying).
Yeah... curious why people generally don't like this one. I thought it was a blast while also maintaining the disturbing and scary aspects of the original. At the very least a solid 8/10.

Disturbing Behavior (1998) - silly, but entertaining enough and creepy at times. 6.5/10
two that are more horror-ish:
The Little Girl Who Lives Down the Lane (1976) - very strange movie. Great performance from Jodie, and Martin Sheen really made my skin crawl. 7/10
Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer (1986) - this movie sneaks up on you with how good it is. Truly unsettling with an all-time great performance from Rooker. 7.5/10
The Wolf Man (1941) - meeeeeeh...... some good stuff but pretty boring overall. Lon Chaney Jr. (who was pretty lame in this tbh-- thought this was supposed to be an iconic horror performance) is hilariously unbelievable as Claude Rains' son. 6/10

Taylor and Walken were awesome though. And that ending was to die for lol. The Wolf Man is SO much better than I Was a Teenage Werewolf. What the hell were the Losers scared of??? The Little Girl Who Lives Down the Lane - I love that one! So creepy, and Sheen made my skin crawl.

Did a random double feature of The Woman and Friday the 13th (1980) last night.
The former is a true Lucky McKee joint- bitingly satirical, wickedly stylistic, and audacious as all fuck. It's a tonally inconsistent and harsh watch, but its less-than-savory characters and the performances that bring them to life- particularly from Pollyanna McIntosh and Angela Bettis- make it sickly enjoyable. There aren't many movies that can take subject matter like toxic masculinity, family dysfunction, spousal abuse, burgeoning sociopathy, etc., stuff them through a horror-comedy filter, and make it work, but McKee is just crazy enough to be up for the job here. Flawed, but memorable stuff. 7.5/10
Friday the 13th. I can't believe it took me this long to finally watch it, and now that I have...eh. I sorta respect its position as a quasi-classic of the horror genre, and its cultural influence, but honestly it's kind of obnoxious how much it blatantly rips off Halloween and Psycho. The story, the characters, the twists, hell even some of the directorial choices and music seems directly lifted from those two far better films. It's not necessarily bad, but I don't think it deserves to be held amongst some of the best the slasher subgenre has to offer. 5.5/10

The House of the Devil- good creepy atmosphere and '80s vibe...... but way too much of this movie is literally nothing happening. 6.5/10

A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night- There's not much substance to the story, but I couldn't help but be completely absorbed by the black and white visuals, spaghetti western-ish soundtrack, and impeccable atmosphere... for the first thirty minutes or so. Eventually it got a bit repetitive. I can't say I was ever completely bored or disliked it or anything... but my enjoyment definitely decreased as the movie progressed. It's still a very solid film overall IMO.
