The Seventh Victim (1943) - very B-movie-esque, very strange and ambivalent atmosphere, I liked it, though it's not on par with Tourner's work for Lewton.

I'm just being silly. I haven't watched any yet. That response is from scream 2 when Ghostface asked randy his favorite scary movie and he said....showgirls.

The Howling (1981) --- ehhh not bad, but never really gripping or suspenseful except for maybe the final 15 minutes. 6.5/10

I just rewatched the Scream series. The first 2 are classics of the genre and, despite their problems, I still enjoyed the 3rd and 4th ones, mostly because of the characters. It's pretty rare for a horror movie series to have a core group of characters who come back for every film. I've always thought that was the series' biggest strengths: likable characters that you can actually root for rather than interchangeable bodies that you're just waiting to see disposed of by the killer. Also, I don't think Neve Campbell gets enough credit for her work. She really shines across all the films and we feel her pain and loss as the violence keeps finding her again and again.

How are we defining horror here tho, in a "horror themed" manner or scary movies in general? Not really have an example I can cite as a recent viewing, but, for example, will something like We Need To Talk About Kevin or Mulholland Dr be acceptable here? Or it has to be labelled as horror officially?

What is happening in this thread. It's spooky enough I am genuinely so confused as to how that movie could be perceived as being even a little spooky. It's not at all intended to be anything close to a horror movie regardless of its title.

Well I haven't seen it so my opinion on the matter is pretty much worthless tbh. I put it on my October Watchlist solely because of the title/subject matter.

Well if you have it on your list of horror movies to watch I'd recommend you take it off. It's not intended to be scary in the slightest. It's a love story.

If you have Spectrum TCM VOD there are several older horror on there. There are a couple from Lynch.
