I had fun with this. It’s not perfect, but definitely much better than the first. Robbie has the best scene in the film but Elba is the MVP imo. I didn’t watch the trailer but I’m a little surprised that people are actually entertaining the idea of this being worse than the first given the track records of the directors involved. Who's the song by? Not sure, sorry.. it may not have been in the film at the time. I was it ten months ago.

That’s it I’m officially becoming a “studios pay off critics” Redditor.

James Gunn is very solid. The disaster talk around this never made any sense to me.

That’s it I’m officially becoming a “studios pay off critics” Redditor. There's no reason for studios to pay off critics given that fanboys would line up to see these things even if it had 0% on the tomatometer. But yeah, "critical acclaim" just doesn't mean what it used to mean. A big chunk of critics don't have the academic background they used to have and are just "fans" like everyone else. And I found the Guardians films moderately entertaining and generally enjoy Gunn's sense of humor. I even didn't really think the first Suicide Squad was as bad as people said, the cast was good and it didn't take itself remotely seriously so I'm willing to give it a little bit of a pass. But everything about this has looked like junk from the get-go. And this whole attitude that reeks of "Ohhh, it's R-rated this time, it for adults".

The good reviews are refreshing to read. And since I have HBO Max, I'll just stream it on there (not in any hurry to watch it when its released the 1st weekend or in theaters for that matter) but I'll definitely get around to it on HBO Max. It sounds like WB & DC let James Gunn go wild with this one so that's good I guess. Hopefully its not too much of an obnoxious comic book movie that tries too hard to be edgy. Elba looks to be a welcomed addition to the cast from what I've read online.

Maybe the world would be a better place if people could just go back to bullying nerds.

Maybe the world would be a better place if people could just go back to bullying nerds. What a moronic take. 'in the shadow of Marvel' Not to mention that it's the fucking click-baity journos that kept asking Scorsese about it. It's not like he called up the trades.

Maybe the world would be a better place if people could just go back to bullying nerds. Terrible take on Gunn's part. It's interesting that you don't see the likes of Nolan, James Mangold, or even Tim Burton getting all defensive about Scorsese's comments and I think there's a particular reason why.
