I don't think it will happen from one day to the other. This just doesn't happen. It's step by step. But obviously with the top players getting older, it comes closer. But I'm sure Djokovic will come back strong and has at least 3 good years ahead of him. Well, I didn't expect it to happen overnight! An entire generation of players has literally gone through their promising years, what should have been their prime years, and passed into what would historically be called your post prime years without a single grand slam win between them. Nishikori, Raonic, Dimitrov, Goffin, Tomic, Pospisil, Paire. The lost generation. How sad. I feel though that generation is a bit of a letdown - though probably every group of players would feel as one after Federer, Nadal, Djokovic, Murray. Of the people you noted I feel that only Nishikori, Dimitrov and Raonic would be "legitime" Grand Slam winners, players who I thought should maybe win a slam. Though depending on where you draw the arteficial "cut-point" you could include Thiem there as well. Or del Potro and Cilic who are just one year older than Nishikori, but also only one year younger than Djokovic and Murray. Those "generations" are always overlapping of course. It's even more sad for those who had to deal their whole career with the Big 3 + Murray. Tsonga, Berdych would most probably have won (at least) one Grand Slam if not up against them all the time. It's a great feat for them beating all members of the Big 4 at least once at a slam, but surely they would prefer to have two or three less of them around and won themselves the titles. And then there are the likes of Monfils, Ferrer, Gasquet, etc. All great players. Well, your lost generation is still not gone. So maybe Dimitrov or Raonic will still win their slam.

Tremendous performance by Rafa, especially in the second and third set. If he plays like that there's no denying him. But if he's not at this best players like Anderson have gave him troubles. So I don't want to say, he has the title already in his bag.
Felt a bit sad for Del Potro that his fairy tale is over. I just wish him that he will finally have lengthy period without injuries. Then he hopefully would be able to continue playing at the level we saw those past two weeks.

No horse in the race for both finals. I just want to see two good matches! Even if it's not close (and i'm kind predicting both matches will be quite one-sided given Rafa and Madison's form). Just wanna see some good tennis.

If it worked against Venus in a semi final, you don't think it'll work against Keys playing her very first final??

But while both Keys and Queenus can dump a lot of balls into the net generally and tally up those UEs, Keys v Coco was a whole different story and I really didn't think Sloane Ranger would be able to push Keys the way she did Vee. Maddie was just landing every shot, perfectly placed. I think she only made like 9 errors in the entire match. As opposed to Venus' 358. I actually think Sloane is also helped by how slow the courts are this year (apparently all-time slow), which totally favours her push and retrieve game (she's an unreal runner). If she makes the YEC in Singapore, she'll have a really good shot on that super slow, pusher-paradise of a court. I generally hate watching a pusher win (it just doesn't make for a watchable match - I mean she's even playing defence on many of her service points), but hey, whatever works I guess. Another thing helping Sloane right now is how incredibly calm and composed she is. Madison is getting a little anxious and it's only tightening up her game even more.

Which one are you talking aboot?? Stephens and her hot tall dark handsome soccer player boyfriend! Venus is in a committed lesbian relationship with myself. If Maddie has a bf i've never seen him, they barely even show her mother on the screen. Actually there have been two really hot ball boys (and one girl) this whole US Open. Very distracting!!

Yeah, I mean choking when a little bit of expectation appears is what Madison Keys has always done best. Just when it seemed like she'd turned the corner... Fingers crossed this turns around, but it's looking bleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeak.

I thought the win against Svito (and her title a few weeks ago against some good players) proved she was done with choking in big moments, even against pushers...... alas, she was not. Just seems to be totally rattled and can't figure out how to win this game. It's just boring to watch as well. Stephens has only hit THREE winners and is about to win this match, possibly with a 2nd set bagel. :/ Wozniacki would be proud (or jealous). Even the Vinci/Pannetta final had more interplay.

Hey, at least the post match speeches were great, even with that moron trying to get them to share every private moment with the world.

The speeches were nice and the greeting at the net was LOVELY. But oof, what a bad final. It's just awkward after all the hooplah about "how great the future of American tennis looks!" I can't remember seeing such a snoring match. Even the crowd had zero excitement... very odd that this was the final when you had a star-quality, high-intensity FIRST ROUND match between Meldonium and Halep that was 10x more watchable. But that's the breaks. Keys could have sent Davenport down from the box to play instead of her and gotten a better score today. If she was at 98% during the match against Cocaine, today she was at 5%. I wonder if the injured leg had anything to do with it... she does need to add dimension to her game though and maybe get a sports psychologist to help her with succeeding under pressure, something she has struggled with since she came out of juniors. Very happy for Slam Stephens (can finally say it with meaning now!), but I want her to win one of these with more aggression some day. She actually has a pretty complete game, it's a shame all she needed to do today was push back to her and hit the occasional good volley. This match made me more pissed about the Venus loss tbh. And you just know that Dementieva, Safina, and several others are sitting at home watching on TV thinking "why wasn't I born 10 years later?" Ah well, men's final tomorrow and then I can start gearing up for the Asian swing. Tokyo will be Kimiko Date's last tennis match(es)... please let her get at least one more win at home before she hangs up her racquet!!!

What an underwhelming final, but everything after makes up for it. They're both just wonderful. Crazy to think that 6 weeks ago Sloane was 957 in the world.

Expecting the men's final to be even more dismal unless hopefully Anderson can pull of a miracle. Nadal absolutely doesn't deserve to win

Incredible happy for Nadal. Winning his 16th Grand Slam, his 3rd at the US Open. Really wouldn't have dreamed of this at the begin of the year.
The final of course was, as expected, not one to remember though. Only in Rafa's last service game Anderson got to deuce for the first time in the match and the South African was simply not able to compete with Nadal. Just a pity that the draw (after the whole withdrawals too) was so onesided.

Hey, Big Kev did himself infinitely more proud than Cilic or Wawrinka did.

Nadal vultures and wins his first non-clay major since 2013 USO,which was another one of these weak draw wins

Just a pity that the draw (after the whole withdrawals too) was so onesided. I hope the USTA has a review of their draws this year... giving such easy paths to both Nadal and the women's #1 (Pliskova) was a big mistake and actually killed a lot of excitement for the slam, I think. As well as the pathetically obvious attempts at getting Sharapova into as deep a run as possible, and loading one quarter with all the quality players...... let's hope this doesn't happen again next year. Not a Nadal fan so i'm a bit 'meh' on him adding more slams to his count but he deserved this one 100%. Played the best, most consistent and aggressive tennis of any man (or woman for that matter) at this tournament and for that I can't complain at all that his name is on the trophy.
