Music - (video) - Sam Quartin / The Bobby Lees - Hollywood Junkyard (2022) - In this striking video - 6 minutes, like a mini-movie - Quartin gives a terrfic acting performance where she's insulted, abused, commodified, drugged, raped .......but she has arisen ........to sing her ass off. She delivers spectacular vocals on this whole EP and her presentation here is "dead" on target (um).......... the band is The New Living Dead of the Zombie Apocalypse. Celebrity Crush - I give up - she wins - Emily Compagno Fox News - The most obvious "going for sexy" host on the network, and the most aggressive and finger pointingly pushy too: staring into the camera and licking her chops with a frightening intensity ......she's also kinda goofy cute and um, a lawyer (of course) ...........if you take her to dinner, she's totally getting a steak, probably really bloody, and she'll totally devour it just like you imagine a (lawyer) wolf would. She just wears you down because she wants it so badly - the attention I mean, not you so much....... Food - Late night weekend cannolis & coffee - First of all what are you doing up and second........that coffee isn't decaf ......... Movies - The Innocents (2021 / 2022) - Creepy, well-written Scanners update with kids (!) - from the co-writer of The Worst Person In The World. Newcomer Rakel Lenora Fløttum is particularly impressive in a well rounded portrayal. Could easily picture a US remake of this............which will absolutely suck.......

Movies: The Scapular (1968), eerie Mexican mystery, nearly plays as anthology horror.... the director has a masterfully gliding camera, always moving, lurking, linking. Great use of music too. I'm tempted to watch it again already; the movies I've seen since all feel so cleverless and flat in comparison.
TV: Ebon Moss-Bachrach in The Bear (FX/Hulu). One of the best perfs of the year I think. Honestly thought they might've casted him off the streets of Chicago... but he's apparently a New Yorker with some stage cred. Asked to play a very unlikable, obnoxious character... but he's often funny and always hurting, having to heighten himself as a defense mechanism, replaying behavior that used to work but now only casts him further out.
Books: Dylan Thomas
Music: Sinatra

Movies: Anything and everything starring Jean Seberg... I just watched a totally underrated little gem of a film from 1963 called In the French Style - beautiful black and white cinematography and a beautiful performance from La Seberg, again in her adopted Paris. Totally recommended Mattsby , Javi . TV: Becoming Elizabeth (Starz) and Irma Vep (HBO Max)... I wait each week with baited breath for the newest episodes. Random: The Caribbean... the food, the culture, the people, and of course, the water.

Music (performance) - These 3 awesome fans @ The Speedways show in London - "Good Girls Don't Break Hearts" (Live - 7 / 2 / 2022) - .......... I love these girls - and they love each other (platonically (?)) at the bottom of the screen ...... and everybody loves the band and the song.....I'm sure these 3 girls break a lot of hearts ... Side note: at ~ 20 seconds or so the guitarist hits the mic almost knocking it over - one of the awesome girls saves it - singer Matt Julian waves him off later - watch his free hand - sorta like saying ".......oh get out of my spotlight - you're ridiculous with your guitar hero shit" Celebrity Crush - Rachel Bonnetta - Sort of like your funnier, cooler, cuter, more sports knowledgeable, Canadian, female, buddy TV - Wimbledon 2022 - The last week - come on .........get into it! Food - Ben & Jerry's - Cherry Garcia - Still not better than Half Baked ..........though this has real fruit in it .......um Drink - Mike's Hard Lemonade - Beats that sour swill the kids in my neighborhood sell - which tastes like it doesn't even have any alcohol in it. Pffft Politics / Potential Band Names - Putin's Inflation, Putin's War, Putin's Gas Prices ....Putin's Price Hike........Putin's Putin ......

Music (song / video) - Morrissey - Speedway (1994) - The song that gave my current favorite band their name (who knew?) - is one of Moz's best post-Smiths .........and quite a lovefest of a live video too ...... Music (song / cover version) - Lucy & The Bats / Rats - 2000 Man (2022) - The awesome Lucy Ellis is back - with either the Bats - or a typo of her band The Rats ...... a stripped down Poptastic version of the Rolling Stones song from Punk Rock Raduro 5 Movie - Kyle Gallner & Emily Skeggs in Dinner in America (2020-2022) - Charmingly mismatched / perfectly matched misfit screen couple. I am fncking with you.....(just kidding as the movie often says) Snack- Mike & Ike (the cherry ones mostly), Swedish Fish, Chuckles, Twizzlers .........candy sugar rush Celebrity Crush - ^ Lucy Ellis aka Lucy Spazzy ........will always love her whole Punk Princess of Pop no BS attitude and her fantastic voice too

Sports - Novak Djokovic - Not merely the GOAT - but no one is quite sure what more he can even achieve at this point - or even be allowed to play - win 0 more slams? win 1 more? win 3? .........more? He is a testament to batshit individualism in a world gone at least as mad as he is - and he provides goofy rewards for your fandom of him. He is - depending on how you read him - often riotously funny, maddeningly stubborn, consistently inscrutable - aside from being, you know, awesome at his job Celebrity Crush - Maria Sharapova - The real one (photo below) - not Djokovic being funny........... with Maria Sharapova TV - Watching some random episodes of The Sopranos for the late Tony Sirico. RIP Music - The Speedways - Borrowed & Blue (2021) - World's best Rock band (non- Fontaines D.C. division) never had their stupendous 5 song covers EP on Youtube - until now..... Hanoi Rocks, ABBA, Kirsty MacColl, Billy Ocean, Roky Erickson all get covered - in versions that are all killer, no filler .......... full EP below - 17 minutes

Music (song) - The Speedways - Shoulda Known (2022) - Well, this is a real find: World's best Rock band - non-Fontaines D.C. division - in an early sneak peek of their fantastic new single - NOT the demo I had heard earlier but the actual single (I hope) - now it's weirder, better, slower, poppier, slickly produced with lush backing vocals and a soaring guitar lead over the melody - with a dueling guitar rhythmic counterpoint underneath too ........never has their simplicity been this complexly written or orchestrated - or their Pop music more big time radio friendly. Never have they been this musical actually...... A greeeeeeeeeeeeeat single - one of this year's very best songs, one of their best songs ......that already sounds like a classic.........this song has a fascinating descending bridge too - post the solo (!) - that goes into even more backing vocals (and faintly, shouts!) before wrapping up in memorable style. The guitars act as the backing vocals during the bridge - that's some complex performative trickery.... Lyrically it is also ominously dark with lyrics about "the sharpest blade", accusatory with fault / blame - that are far more weighty than usual........although they always write superb lyrics anyway. Bandcamp link- incorrectly labeled as "Shoulda Know" btw........ snaprecordsspain.bandcamp.com/track/the-speedways-shoulda-know-2Movies - Emily The Criminal (2022) - Aubrey Plaza in a very fine performance that I'll write about later I'm sure........could have been even better if the movie understood the character and its own subtext just a bit better. But still .........I dug it

Movies: Dressed to Kill (1980) umpteenth rewatch, love it more than ever. Also generally... Tubi. Go to any good list of movies on Letterboxd and filter thru the services, Tubi'll have the most. I know someone who has their movie on there, he said they were so accommodating when he asked if they could move the ad breaks. Now why don't they sell like tee shirts with the logo...... and why are their original movies so bad? Who is hiring Lifetime talent? With a slight shake, slight push, it's a truly household name service. Book: Waves Passing in the Night: Walter Murch in the Land of the Astrophysicists (2017).... my interests have never ventured toward the outer spaces or this specific quadrivium topic, maybe that's why it has me bewildered but turning the page. I mean, it's only 150pg (any more and I might detonate)... The writing is clear and I love love love Murch and his polymathic brain. He's gotta book on the origins of cinema coming out next year; can't wait. Food: Donuts..... and dipping things in tzatziki (not the donuts).

Music (song) - The Heat Inc. - Draw Blood For Proof (2022) - London longhairs with the Punkiest and most epic sounding single of the year - and one of the best too. Music (album) - Tchotchke - Self titled (2022) - Charming debut from East Coast girls who love 60s girl groups and Spector production Film - The Iron Rose (1973) - Jean Rollin's least Rollin movie has many things in it that are among his best ever - and most coherent - works. Can be watched multiple times for atmosphere alone actually....without his usual thrills though - this is what for him is a mood piece

Two of the more anticipated pacinoyes music releases left in 2022 and a classic from 20 years ago that these 2 newer bands - at something near the same point in their careers - would like to emulate: New Music Not Yet Released But Played on College Radio - Kiwi Jr. "The Sound of Music" - From the forthcoming album "Chopper" - August 12th - Very poppy and playful - dances on a synth line and odd breakdown of almost toy-like percussion............references the movie ...........and Julie Andrews too. This song throws a lot into its arrangement - it's quite clever. 4th released song from a 10 song album - all winners. New Music Not Yet Released But Played on College Radio - The Speedways - "A Drop In The Ocean" - Part of a double A side single (I guess) with the classic to be "Shoulda Known" in September - with an album possibly in November. A fine, very slick, 3 minute ballad. They're giving a lot of thought to each part of each composition now - this even has a fake-out start .......this is more subdued and bittersweet - these lyrics about "being there for you" (or does that switch to "sad for you"?) - when things ``go of the rails / everything else fails" are a bit troubling......... when you have to pat yourself on the back instead of her doing it..........this just isn't going to end well .......this is Power Pop....... we have rules..........we have very old rules..............which I guess is what Shoulda Known is about, right fellas?.............. Shoulda Known link below, nothing yet for A Drop in the Ocean: snaprecordsspain.bandcamp.com/track/the-speedways-shoulda-know-2Music (song) - Spoon - Jonathon Fisk (2002) - You can argue Spoon showed flashes of awesomeness earlier - Series of Sneaks (1998) and Girls Can Tell (2001) or The Agony of Laffitte single (1998) and while that's sorta true - there's no arguing that Kill The Moonlight (2002) was a whole different level of wow and this song was its reckoning between youthful horrors and adulthood..........they'd make 2 more all-timer albums after this - arguably better ones - in one of the great 3 consecutive album streaks in "recent" times.

Pet Peeve - I feel awful and mushy........It's been like 150 degrees here - every day - for the last 3 weeks ........I'm basically a gelatinous blob atm. I'm drinking liquids constantly - I'm so full of water, beer, soda, coffee, orange juice, iced tea and um, presumably blood............. that I may just eventually evaporate ...... Video - The Speedways - for Shoulda Known (2022) - In the band's pretty simple but pretty cool performance video - just dropped - for their Poptastic new single - at 2:26 - lead singer Matt Julian is pictured wearing a Replacements Stink t-shirt. The only way this band could be more like pacinoyes is if they posted about themselves in the 3rd person and laughed at their own jokes...... Movies - My Best Fiend (1999) - Werner Herzog chronicles his love (sort of) / hate relationship with Klaus Kinski. The scenes of Kinski as Christ are all-timer stuff Plays / Reading - August Strinberg material - and about him a lot - especially his play The Pelican which I saw staged recently......and maybe didn't fully get before tbh

Music (song) - More Kicks - Animal (2022) - By far the best song this band has ever cut - part Buzzcocks, part Paul Weller in The Jam, part combustible explosion. Yet another flat out stunning song - in a year stacked with them - in a lot of genres - Country, Noise, Synth-Pop, Alternative, Power-Pop, Punk / Garage ....... Music (live song snippet on Youtube) - 1 minute live clip of The Speedways playing "Kiss Me Goodbye" (2022) - The first Speedways song that Matt Julian doesn't sing - from the forthcoming Talk of the Town album (I guess?) - lead guitarist Mauro Venegas sings and it sounds ........predictably ..........fantastic. Movie - Tiger Bay (1959) - Part crime film, part tearjerker, part coming of age movie all smashed together in a fascinatingly watchable, socially sensitive curiosity with a marvelous Hayley Mills. I've seen it more - far more - than I've seen most straight up masterpieces ffs. .......weirdly compelling. Love It / Hate It - Rick Beato's "What Makes This Song Great?" series on Youtube - Where Beato picks songs mostly that are not even close to good (he does pick some pacinoyes™ approved ones) and then acts like a total fanboy as he describes in mind numbing detail - specific chord changes and musicianship things - that make him giddy and normal people think "Is he kidding?" It's both annoying and sweet - more annoying - but you can go down a rabbit hole watching him telling you this stuff - and weirdly the more you hate a song - the more watchable he is - because he really, really loves bad songs. TV - Amy Lundy Dahl on the Tennis Channel and Youtube - getting me ready for the US Open, with facts, analysis, style and she's funny too. Food - Mini-ice cream sandwiches - Refreshing minimalist treat in the hottest Summer ever and you can eat a million of them before they equal 1 regular size one or something so they are healthy. It's a win-win basically.

Music (song) - and in particular the amazing year that Sam Quartin & The Bobby Lees are having - Monkey Mind (2022) - from forthcoming album "Bellevue" - New song from an October album (their 3rd, but 1st since they became really good) puts life in the good old Bam! / Whomp! / Pow! zone - this piece of exciting amateurishness is maybe slightly less bracing than the 4 songs from their shit-hot EP - or maybe it's just expected now.........but they are sure to divide audiences the way The White Stripes did in 2001 / 2002 ..........and like Jack & Meg in those years......... those who get it........ really get it.......and their 3rd album was White Blood Cells so ..... The vocalist - actress Sam Quartin - in her 2022 incarnation anyway - encapsulates this idea of a raving mad movie starlet losing her mind and she enunciates so on target - listen to how she says the word "down" (dahhhn) - that she makes you want to join her. She yells, screeches, in fits, with moans and spasms - she's the vocalist of 2022 but also someone to marvel at - Quartin sings like Gloria Swanson in Sunset Blvd fronting a Garage-Punk band or maybe someone wrestling with their straight jacket. The Bobby Lees already have an original song on my best of 2022 list and an EP and a cover song .........if they make the album list - that would be 4 different releases, in 4 different "Best Of" categories in 1 calendar year ...........that's a grand slam...........and that's never happened in my MAR era lists........and pacinoyes lists™ are the official lists that MAR uses to make our money through our licensing arrangements ........so it's a pretty big deal, yanno? Music (cover art) - The Speedways - They look funny - a lead singer who seems 50 and 18 simultaneously, a guitarist who looks a bit like Phil Dunphy, a bassist who conveys a dapper male hustler and a drummer who ......well, no, the drummer looks exactly like a drummer. The Speedways pay homage to The La's classic debut for their new double song single which also nods to The Replacements, Kinks, Smiths in the music, a video and the lyrics. Acting - Patrick McGoohan - At times a pretty fascinating actor, I've been catching up with a lot of his work and enjoying him in his Columbo's too Drink - Mike's Hard Lemonade - Makes Summer, more Summer-y and sometimes contributes to my freqnunt typhos (um)

Music (album) - Kiwi Jr. - Chopper (2022) - Canadian band makes their 3rd and best album - the most tuneful, listenably smart Indie Rock record - whatever that BS shorthand means in 2022 - by anybody not named Parquet Courts in quite a while.
Upcoming Awesome Song Titles (2022) - There's no way of knowing how the new More Kicks or the new Bobby Lees albums will be - but the former has a song called Phoney Middle Aged Art and the latter has one called Greta Van Fake.......so hopes are obviously high for sarcastic smart-asses like yours truly.
More Kicks have now added this to their next album description (below) - really going for that pacinoyes positive review, huh fellas?
For fans of: Buzzcocks, The Kinks, Exploding Hearts, Guided By Voices, The Replacements
Movies - Jude (1996) - Re-watch inspired by our Winslet / Blanchett poll - Blanchett is still the better actress ........but Winslet is quite marvelous and this fine film is the most depressing movie ever made.......or at least the one you don't know is going to be this depressing.
TV - Real Time With Bill Maher who is proving hiself - lately - to be consistently funnier, less disingenuous and more astute actually than John Oliver

Movie - When I Consume You (2022) - Art horror that isn't scary but is quite thought provoking with some ace acting by Libby Ewing who makes some great idiosyncratic choices........comparable to other high concept horrors like You Won't Be Alone and Dawn Breaks Behind The Eyes......this is love it or hate it stuff ........but I loved it a bit less tbh.........lots of good ideas though TV - Judy Justice - The best show to watch if you're hungover because you could be dying - but at least you are better off than these unfortunate people - almost always dog owners btw.......... Also this show has goofy things in it - she talks to her grand-daughter after every case and wears a purple robe now which is quite fetching (dog pun) Celebrity Crush - Louise Follain (yeah still) - France's bewitching It Girl..... Music - The Who - Mary Anne With The Shaky Hand (1967) - An all time favorite of mine and the song I'd add to Meaty, Beaty, Big and Bouncy.............. if it wasn't perfect already I mean, which it is

MOVIES: Japanese films, mostly Masahiro Shinoda (some interesting interviews with him too on Criterion) and of his especially Pale Flower and Samurai Spy where he shoots the dialogue like action scenes and then subverts the expected swordplay by obscuring it as much as possible. MUSIC: Hank Ballard - Let's Go, Let's Go, Let's Go Paul Westerberg - It's Ridiculous (Everybody Wants to be Famous) BOOKS:This new small bookshop near me is heaven.... On my last visit, I got a Dylan Thomas, a David Goodis collection, some Old West stories by Bret Harte, and a Calvin & Hobbes..... pretty much covered all the bases! FOOD: The calm before the pumpkin storm...... I've been swilling sum Stella Artois, and tbh, Trader Joe's mini ice cream cones are awesome and really cheap! OTHER: This voice performer Edward French who sounds like he studied the intones of Welles and Vincent Price - and does a helluva good job of it. Lots of Poe and Shirley Jackson etc. I've been like a briffit-bound greyhound at the stalls waiting for October... to play lots n lots of his videos.

Kira Reed from erotica star of the 90s to a Emmy Winner (ok daytime Emmy Winner) actress and producer. She started producing in the erotic genre (almost pornographiic) but right now she is producing all family christmas movies staring Margaret OBrien. What a change!!! I love the erotic thrillers DVD from the 90s. But for a woman with more of a dozen films like this. She is the only one who has a non stop and rising career. She just change the genre. Shannon Tweed is the Queen of Milf, but after she married Gene Simmons she only made one movie. Shanna O'Brien was my seccond choice and the third Spotify was a tie between Shannon Whirry and Maria Ford. But right now Kira is my number 3. She has a great sense of humor.

Yep I partially agree starts as Louise May Alcott/Jane Austen thing (with a little of Abelard Heloise) but thinks go darker then... Its not a depresión film, but is a like a kick in the stomach. The worse thing is that Jude the Obscure lovers complaint in their time about that's too sunny shiny!!!

Music - More Kicks - This UK band was pretty good up until this forthcoming 2nd album (Punch Drunk - September 16) was announced - that's where things changed and they are maybe about to become a great band in the next 5 days.
3 very strong singles - or better........but also a haunting Westerberg-type offhand ballad - and that's a B-side ffs (10 Miles High - below).
TV 1 - Kay Adams - her new FanDuel show - on Youtube also - is sexy, smart, funny, informative and the hour just flies by.........her "Overreaction Friday'' was particularly on point ........the Rams won't win a game this year!
TV 2 - Fraudal loses, new faces in the finals, what more could you want from this US Open.......... besides Djokovic playing I mean.......almost played out like I wrote it myself tbh
TV 3 - Peep Show - Hilarious stuff, I can relate .......um, sorta because these guys have a lot of problems ok?.......can't believe I missed this show........
Why didn't you just pay for it?
They should be paying us to eat that shit! ..........You know how I feel about Capitalism!
Yes, confused.
TV 4 - Football Sundays, baby
Movies - Deep(er) dive into all the shorts of Takashi Ito
Food / Drink - All Pumpkin Spice Everything, all the time.........and Chinese / Mexican rotations for dinner.........gastrointestinal death cramps ftw

Movies - Profound Desires of The Gods (1968) - Shōhei Imamura's movie is part parable, part realism and part satire and it's sort of like a Herzog film taken over at some point by Bunuel. Very haunting, and weirdly eerie and also darkly funny all while being maddeningly disjointed and fragmented and very long - a fascinating movie and very modern - this would be considered cutting edge right now. I bet people who love this really, really love it - and I bet a lot do although it seems underseen for some reason - it's VERY Japanese in setting, mysteries, cultural politics etc. Music (album) - More Kicks - Punch Drunk (2022) - Either a great Rock and Roll album with a few duds or a really, really good one elevated to nearly great by several stupendous songs - not just a couple.
