7/10, it's fine.
Space Oddity, Life on Mars, and maybe Changes would have all been 10's from Bowie, plus All the Young Dudes which he wrote for Mott the Hoople. That would be an interesting one to do, it's probably his best song, if I wrote something that good I would have never given it away.

8 Among the three best songs on the album along with the title track and “Time.” The last minute of the song is rather sublime with the kind of ambivalent, slippery harmonic maneuvering that you rarely hear in rock/pop music, but is more common in something like film music. 7/10, it's fine. Space Oddity, Life on Mars, and maybe Changes would have all been 10's from Bowie, plus All the Young Dudes which he wrote for Mott the Hoople. That would be an interesting one to do, it's probably his best song, if I wrote something that good I would have never given it away. Actually heard the song in a restaurant yesterday and thought to myself the same thing (though he recorded his own version later of course). |
