Fuck. Fuck. This one hurts so very, very much. He was legendary on Homicide: Life on the Street (he really stands a strong case for giving the best portrayal of a cop in TV history) and he got a fantastic against-type career resurgence the last few years with his hilariously deadpan work on Brooklyn Nine-Nine.

Jesus. What a fantastic actor, remember him quite fondly in Homicide and The Mist. We lost a talent guys, RIP!

Horrible loss to the acting community. So much great work over the years, particularly on television. In a just world, he'd have had a movie career that was similarly iconic to his Glory co-stars, Morgan Freeman & Denzel Washington, as his performance was just as important to that great film's fabric as theirs.
But his impact on television was still legendary, particularly for his Emmy Winning lead actor role as Frank Pembleton in Homicide: Life On The Street, a gritty, truthful performance that was just as important as James Gandolfini's Tony Soprano, in kicking off the modern age of prestige television. Braugher was one of the great instinctive character actors. 61 is too young, but what a great actor.
RIP

Simmons-esque run at an Oscar, if he'd just nabbed a really baity role in an Oscar vehicle.

RIP
I'm a big fan of his performance in an epsode of Homicide named Control which is a personal fave......he also was highly memorable in how he portrayed that character's stroke which you never really see portrayed (as opposed to say a heart attack) and it rang true and was quite frightening....
Also love him in the Subway episode with Vincent D'Onofro......I mean he was top notch across that show in its entirety but those 2 episodes alays lingered in my mind

They just weren't ready for that gritty, searing realism.

This fucking sucks Tremendous actor, deserved a better film career but left a great legacy. As Stephen soulfully pointed out, he was all time great on Homicide: Life on the Street and got a richly deserved Emmy for his work on that show. Great character actor who I feel Hollywood didn’t utilize his full potential. Can’t say enough about his underrated work in Glory going toe to toe with two all time greats in Denzel Washington and Morgan Freeman. RIP good sir!

He also won an Emmy for his excellent work on Thief, which was unfairly cancelled before its time.

Also, can I just say that it's such bullshit that we lost Braugher the same year we lost Lance Reddick. We are now without both of our disapproving yet reasonable authority figures/surrogate fathers on excellent genre-defining David Simon shows.

It's a shame that he didn't get too many prestige movie roles in his last year's because of his TV commitments, but he had a sizable role in She Said, which was a solid awards season movie performer, so I could see him making a transition into prestige character roles in movies. I could easily have seen him in Da 5 Bloods for example.

I could definitely have seen him in the Clarke Peters role (someone check on him because I can't deal with losing Cool Lester Smooth the same year we lost Pembleton and Daniels), but I would've killed to have seen him work with Barry Jenkins.

Couldn’t take your eyes off of them when they did their work…Pembleton interrogating in the Box and Daniels dressing down his subordinates.

Him and Lindo going head to head would’ve been amazing..although I loved Clarke Peters work in the film. Sucks.

This was a hard one..I hate reading about this yesterday. Andre was an amazing actor and seemed like such a kind soul.
It appears it may have been cancer.
Rest in Peace dear Andre. You will be missed.

Kind of crazy that Glory was his first film role. Looking at his performance, you would’ve thought he was a seasoned vet as a film actor. Just so natural in front of the camera.

Also want to mention that Homicide episode of him and Steve Buscemi going tit for tat was a pleasure to watch in regards to acting. People sleep on 90s TV.
