Looks like Oppenheimer and Flower Moon got some stiff competition in Poor Things. Still don't think it will win any atl awards besides actress.

Well, the Best Actor race is over. He always made the most sense to me as a potential winner. Nice to see that he delivered.

Poor things looks terrible and Lanthimos is another wannabe fincher who we didnt need because we have Von Trier so I expect the Academy to eat it up. Cinema is truly decrepit if his weak ass work gets praised

Well, the Best Actor race is over. You talking about Venice or the Oscar? How is Carey? She looked impressive in the trailer.

I've heard more people praising Mulligan than Cooper tbh.

Alex Billington: Quite enjoyed Maestro but it's more of a 7/10 for me than anything greater than that.
This kind of simple, honest truth telling that may actually kill the movie industry or at least festival season .......

With not many movies flopping this year and a few new strong actress contenders recently (and Gladstone looking hard to beat if she stays supporting) I’m thinking The Color Purple should consider moving to next year. They have a good out.
Domingo can go for the afterglow nomination next year instead of facing this increasingly strong field.

Mulligan is definitely getting nominated too. There’s a couple of scenes where she simply tears your heart apart.

What's so depressing about those Palace reactions is it may be his last - like there's not time (maybe) for him to go out on a high note where An Officer and A Spy was that so perfectly.........ngl.......it's pretty gutting Side note: I thought this trailer looked great too.........

Polanski's The Palace getting absolutely shredded - and reviews are out from some big peeps - Owen Gleiberman etc ......... I was hoping it'd be more like that first clip (elegant blocking, detailed, light slapstick....) instead of the overexposed trailer (where we do not have enough time to decide whether Polanski and Skolimowski coming up with porn titles such as The Sperminator and Pulp Friction is an uh-oh or actually hilarious). There are no positive reviews......but then this kind of grossout style gaudy comedy shouldn't really be at Venice and it's not for the critics to like anyway it seems. It's being playful with offensiveness....and so it's easy to hate on I'd imagine (unlike Dreyfus). The only thumbs-ups I see are from the Italiano of Letterboxd comparing it to their winter-tradition farces (the cinepanettone). From the press conference.... Oliver Masucci let slip that Polanski had wanted Christoph Waltz for the lead. I wonder if having Waltz would've given the movie the center it might need. (It's been a while since Pol hasn't had a name-actor protagonist... or less loose material....). Anyway ! I still can't wait to see it.

The Killer is good but it lacks the spark that makes Fincher’s movies special.
The Beast is a total mindfuck and I LOVED it.
