The Killer is good but it lacks the spark that makes Fincher’s movies special. The Beast is a total mindfuck and I LOVED it. How were Seydoux and McKay? Seydoux is good, McKay is VERY good.

I say this all the time : Lea Seydoux is the world's best actress under 40........and this seems like a great role for her - though I'm sure McKay is good too.
From Deadline:
David Lynch did most of this too, in the brilliant Inland Empire, but Bonello puts his own spin on the material with a much more classic arthouse style. It’s sometimes too oblique to be totally satisfying, and the boyish MacKay is an odd choice for Louis in all his iterations. But Seydoux is a revelation, and the sense of trepidation and fear in her eyes does the lion’s share of the work in terms of assuring us that, whatever form it might take, “the beast” is real — and it’s out there.

I expect The Beast to win a big prize, maybe Best Director.

Fassbender was born to play this role, he’s the best thing about the movie.

Bertrand Bonello's The Beast: The last act definitely feels Lynchian.

It is updated to modern times, it has that Friedkin acting, intense and sometimes shouted, and it has his signature themes of ‘fine line between good and evil’. The cast is spectacular, Clarke and Sutherland above the rest imo, Lacy and Reddick too.

I'm so glad to hear that about Clarke -- I saw someone mention him as someone we should be giving him Gene Hackman '70s-type roles, and honestly, I agree.

Can’t wait. I like the Bogart and really like the Altman version from the ‘80s—and generally playadaptations (you know me well!). glad to hear about Jake Lacy, I think he’s kinda underrated of his generation.

Seeing one of the top letterboxd reviews for Caine Mutiny Court Martial acting as though it ripped off Chicanery from Better Call Saul makes one lose all hope for humanity.

I don’t see it happening but Priscilla getting a BP nomination would make for a fantastic and hilarious Oscar season.
