After one crazy-as-fuck summer where I almost had zero time for myself, here's my impressions from three of the first Competition movies.
El Conde: One of Larrain's best. Ferrari: Thank you Michael for your input. Dogman: Love you Caleb, hate you Luc.

We really don't give Caleb Landry Jones enough credit for his versatility. The kid's a native Texan, yet he nailed the Aussie accent in Nitram and he's making a decent stab at a Scottish accent here. Not quite 100%, but still, it's like he's heard people talk about how Americans can't do other accents and he's taking it as a personal challenge.

Potentially yes, the performance is very good, but I don't think it will win.

Sounds like you weren't very fond of either Ferrari or Dogman (outside of Jones's performance). I will be very keen to hear more about them when you get a chance.

damn, reactions are pretty mixed
good write ups for penelope though. it’s a weak supporting actress year so wonder if she’ll become one of the stronger contenders in that lineup (gladstone still sounds like the early front runner tho)

Here's the Rotten Tomato reviews for Ferrari. So far, so good. Currently in the 70% range. Lots of praise for Penelope Cruz and Mann's direction.

Most of the mixed reactions for Ferrari are NextBestPicture tier tabloids so it's probably a fantastic movie

I'd put Gladstone, Henson, Brooks, Blunt, Randolph, Pike and possibly Davis and Moore above her at least.

Cruz getting a nomination for this performance is very unlikely.

Cruz getting a nomination for this performance is very unlikely. Even remembering she was nominated for Nine? Not asking as a challenge to your opinion, just wondering if it is less substantial than that performance (also in a film that mostly flopped as a contender outside of her).

stephen Poor Things has the rare Mark Ruffalo performance that you’ll like.

Ok one more thing about Poor Things: pacinoyes there’s an actress you love in this movie but as far as I know she was never announced. Don’t look it up! You'll love being surprised by her appearance and her performance.

Cotillard should've campaigned for supporting that year.
