I'm with Stephen, I think Seydoux wins the Volpi. I've heard she's fucking incredible.

The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar with a confirmed runtime of 39 minutes. Nope, scratch that. It's 4 short stories and the longest one is about 40 minutes. No word on whether they're only showing the one story, or the whole thing.

the killers runtime is 113 minutes, wtf. there was talks that it was apparently at almost 3 hours long. surprised that major trimming happened considering it’s from netflix + the screenings apparently went over v well.
off the top of my head that has to be finchers shortest movie since panic room

That Polanski clip is a great example of his signature style - no one has ever done the wide shot / depth of frame better to convey something........and his scenic design is ingenuous with stuff like this @85?!?:
He starts on the balloons.......and then you see the whole scope of the room - and what is involved - and it switches between incremental close-ups (the zipper, the cough, the maids hands) within the wide shot - the camera moves that subtlety..........so the entire shot is a simultaneous close-up of the speaker and a full wide-shot of the room.
Most directors pick one - he never does if he can do both .......the best moments of his career are close-up that surprsingly come out of much wider shots.........you could teach a class on that shit......no has ever understood the full frame better.....

Challengers will be the festival opener. Cool. That movie looks good. If it's anything like Match Point, I am totally in, and just in time for Wimbledon. That is very very low expectations.

I am pretty sure he posted a review of someone who said it was 150 minute cut according to that someone.....he didn't say it would be 150 minutes .............and he didn't say he saw it ....... somebody else said a 3 hour cut existed and he posted it as a rumor....you take that info with a grain of salt and he presents it as such too......this board really needs to get off of Ruimy's dick tbh........this is standard shit for a movie board ffs - are people here new or something?......like he didnt take that off of AW right? But no one ever says anything about that font of information........

That guy's steadily making a play for being a generational talent and no one is paying attention. I'd love if McDonagh got him and Keoghan in a movie together.

Straight-up ferocious, haunting, chilling work. I am not an Australian but I've been around Aussies and watched enough Australian content that I felt his accent rang very true. Definitely watch it when you can. Judy Davis is the best she's been in decades, Essie Davis is delightful and LaPaglia is heartbreaking . . . but it's Jones who stands above them all.

Volpi Cup for Best Actress - Lea Seydoux for The BeastThis would be a huge deal - last year the world's best English speaking actress won it........and this would (imo) be the world's best under 40 actress...... This is incredibly risky, complicated material that could be awful - and it's likely it almost all falls on her to carry - the co-star George Mackay is vanilla pudding so far to me....... and came on board the movie later in development - though he learned French for this role which is something....... No young actress has Seydoux's range of great work lately in terms of star roles and character roles, genres (sci-fi, comedy, drama, horror).......and she was flat out royally robbed last year for a César nod and possibly for a win the year prior to that for her inspired France work.....she is having the career Adèle Haenel threw away basically...... . Still....could be great.......or a mess.......pulling for her though......kind of my pet acting crush of recent years ........

Some tea from Cédric Succivalli on THE BEAST and MacKay’s performance.
“George MacKay in THE BEAST gives a performance for the ages, truly astonishing. Nobody will come close this year for Best Actor in my book. If the film does not win the Golden Lion - but chances are pretty high it does -, he will be THE contender to beat for the Volpi Cup and with the buzz post Venice will keep on growing and growing at TIFF, NYFF...etc... Biggest hurdle will be if the film gets released in 2023 in the USA, then I could see him winning the trifecta easily with THAT performance.“
I’ve always liked MacKay, so this is great to hear.

mmmmm Augusto Pinochet as a vampire who wants to die ? Count me in !! Looks like Pablo Larrain is back on track after taking way too many sleeping pills. The whole gang is back so I'm intrigued if a bit cautelous because with Netflix behind, directors tend to succumb to their most indulgent side.
