Michelle Williams in Best Actress - and her performance is the only "great" thing in that movie ftw

Is Michelle Williams already a NGNG prediction? What a plummet.

Is Michelle Williams already a NGNG prediction? What a plummet. I’m not predicting her but she’s not NGNG. I think she’s 5th on Goldderby right now.

I think in a way anyone in #5 in lead actor feels NGNG, as anyone is going in with very little to their name in terms of precursors.

Yanno, I'm weird - I just think whatever anyone wants to say - just say it - don't ask permission and shit .............. though I guess I totally should have checked with our Oscar "experts" (sarcasm) ........before saying Todd Field and Michelle Williams - not "edgy" enough ..........I guess .........pffft Let me try again though - since this game means a lot to me ......... and I submit Mr. Colin Farrell - for Best Actor. ..................

My big NGNG is that Avatar misses all above-the-line categories.
I also think RRR is a bigger threat to get back into Picture/Director than people are giving it credit for.

Can someone clarify for me. I always thought NGNG aren’t things in your actual predictions but gutsy picks you could see happening. It seems like people are putting actually predictions here.

No Guts No Glory should be an actual prediction you are making. Hence the no guts (making a seeming unlikely nomination) but glory if you're are right in making the unexpected prediction.

Schuch in supporting actor. I feel like if they have seen All Quiet there's no way they wouldn't put him in their ballots.

Schuch in supporting actor. I feel like if they have seen All Quiet there's no way they wouldn't put him in their ballots. This would be the coolest nomination ever. I have him as my #6 right now for a nomination because I think a last-minute surge for All Quiet is happening and like you, I feel anyone who watched the film would be bowled over by him.

I don't have any major NGNG predics this season, but because so many of the Big 8 categories have an open spot, I can definitely see some surprises happpening. For instance Best Director seems primed for one- Daniels, Spielberg, Field, and McDonaugh are all locks, but the fifth spot is up for grabs. I got Kosinski getting in, but I was mulling over the possibility of something crazy happening like Guillermo del Toro for Pinocchio, or AGI since the branch seems to love him so much.
Best Actor is another one, Butler/Farrell/Fraser/Nighy all locks but no sure fifth nom. I'm currently predicting LaBelle, but I have a sneaking suspicion someone like Pope could get in. Baity role in an under-the-radar prestige pic. Could also make the same argument for Mescal.

Nathaniel over at The Film Experience is predicting Charlotte Wells for a Best Director nomination, but no Best Picture nomination for Aftersun... Hm... What do you think? I'd think the only way this would happen is if both the film and Wells are nominated, à la Benh Zeitlin/ Beasts of the Southern Wild.

Nighy misses, Mescal rises. In favor of whom? Nighy hasn't shown any weakness, and his film has only gotten stronger since it is now a likely adapted screenplay nominee as well.

I'd think the only way this would happen is if both the film and Wells are nominated, à la Benh Zeitlin/ Beasts of the Southern Wild. I mean, she couldn't even get in at BAFTA for screenplay or director. The support just doesn't seem to be there.
