Yikes at audience score. 47%. Not looking good at all.

It’s probably getting Razzie nominations at this point. They love dumping on pre-season favourites that get middling reviews.

Given how mixed the reviews for this have been,Margot needed to get stellar notices to land a nomination, and she didn't.I'm not ruling her out completely, but I think she's unlikely.I think Pitt's in though. So, for Best Actress, are you predicting: Cate Blanchett Viola Davis Danielle Deadwyler Michelle Williams Michelle Yeoh ?

Paramount fucked up big time in marketing and advertising this movie, some heads in that department and beyond should go down.
Why not give it The Revenant treatment, limited on Christmas and wide on mid January?? Movies like this always gamble on award season. They just release them during the holidays to qualify for the awards. Ex: LaLa Land barely made 14 million 2 months after its wide release then made 470 million after award season.
Especially during Avatar's second weekend it's suicidal to do otherwise.
It's almost as if Paramount wanted to dump this movie.

Had they gone limited would have never able to expand. I think this just proves that CC and Globes don't really seek out what's good. They try to predict Oscars or set some sort of Trend.

Exactly that line up,maybe Viola will get switched out for Olivia Colman, but I doubt it.

Here's my thinking:
I was extremely skeptical of the film, when the trailer dropped. As I said earlier in this thread, the trailer didn't get me excited. I expect excitement when I see a trailer. Then when I saw the studio did not submit Babylon for official competition in any of the film festivals, it is pretty apparent the studio wanted to "hide" the film. Seeing the reviews being so divisive, it basically confirmed my original suspicion. Now, I hear the movie is over 3 hours long and features an elephant pooping on a character. That's a hard pass for me. It's no wonder why people stayed away. I'll probably stay away from the film, unless it gets nominated for major Oscars.
My impression here is that voters are told to pick their top ten favorite films. They are not given a list of movies to rate from a scale from 1 to 10. Babylon would make that list because there's a large number of people who love the film. Babylon looks similar to a Don't Look Up or Extremely Loud, where people either say "love" or "dislike"/"it's okay".

Having seen it, I still think it can get nods for Picture, Actress, Original Screenplay, Editing, Production Design, Costumes and Score. It should be win-competitive in Score and Production Design, and I can see a world where it gets nods for Sound, Supporting Actor, Cinematography and Director.
It may not be lighting the box office on fire and the critical word is mixed, but everything is in full display and we've seen less well-received films do well and even win Oscars.
