Now we get in on the action. Sure other cities and awards groups get their say to highlight the year's best film achievements, but now it's us. let’s get on with the excitement! For those not in the know, this is our Oscars and the yearly time to deliberate and vote and present our favorite technical, acting, writing, etc. achievements of the year 2021. Here was last years winners presentation to look back on: 2020 AMARA Winners PresentationsThe categories (with # of nominees): Best Picture (10) Best Director (7) Best Actor (7) Best Actress (7) Best Supporting Actor (7) Best Supporting Actress (7) Best Ensemble Cast (5) Best Original Screenplay (5) Best Adapted Screenplay (5) Best Cinematography (5) Best Production Design (5) Best Costume Design (5) Best Makeup and Hair-styling (5) Best Choreography (5) Best Visual Effects (5) Best Film Editing (5) Best Sound Editing (5) Best Sound Mixing (5) Best Original Score (5) Best Original Song (5) Best Documentary Film (5) Best Animated Film (5) Best Debut Feature (5) Performer of the Year (3) Best Soundtrack (3) Please send your ballots to my pm Your ballots need to be ranked. You can submit ballots with any category with less than the category's number, or without certain categories other than the top 9. Points will be assigned based on your ranking. The eligibility period will be for the first theatrical release in the film's country (or one of its countries) of origin. Look on IMDb for that information. French Exit was deemed ineligible for last year’s presentation and is eligible for this. TV movies are eligible. Miniseries are not. The voting period is open now, and will close on Thursday, June 9thPosting super early so that gives ample time for recommendations to actually be watched. Feel free to post any FYCs in this thread.

FYC: These two Those two? Especially her? I can’t imagine her being anybody’s win. Certainly not mine. They’ll both be in my 7, and of course Renate’s getting top pick

please can we extend debut feature to 5? There are always so many good ones and 2021 was no exception... Mass, Harder They Fall, Pig, The Novice, Lost Daughter, Passing, Shiva Baby, The Humans, Censor, After Love. Three isn't enough

I didn't like the film, but if Lakeith Stanfield doesn't get a nod for Judas it will be criminal. You can all ignore Kaluuya though.

Which category are we putting the Mass cast in? Should be all lead, Birney honestly is the only one I'd say has even a hint of grey area to, and really he's still lead.

I'll throw together a lead vs. supporting thread soon guys. Worst comes to the worst you submit a ballot and then have to slightly tweak the placements later.

Is Boiling Point elegible ? Imdb lists UK as its only country of origin and was only released there early January 2022. A few "under the radar" recs: . COMPARTMENT NO. 6. A delightful take on strangers on a train. . NEVER GONNA SNOW AGAIN. Reminded me a bit of Kieslowski's films. . PETITE MAMAN

FYC for Lead Actress Olivia Colman, The Lost Daughter I'm not sure how the book deals with the character motivations, but the screenplay and directing did nothing to key me in as to why the adult version of Leda would continue on her path of secrecy in the fashion the film portrays. I will say that Colman is more than cued into those motivations and helps ease that a little. This movie borderline fails without this performance. An utterly transfixing display of sly looks and making unbelievable situations and reactions of this world. Penélope Cruz, Parallel Mothers This was a very different movie than I expected going into it. I love how Cruz is able to display the proactive nature of Janis and the weight of knowing every piece of information that is related to every damn character in this beautiful movie. Andra Day, The United States vs. Billie Holiday One of those biopics that is saved from being unwatchable by a lead turn that feels to embody everything about the persona of Holiday. Facial expressions that are so dramatic that they leap through the screen. Lou de Laâge, The Mad Women’s Ball I wish this movie leant into a more gothic feel, Delbonnel would've fit great as the dp, but I digress. Eugenie disappears for a good portion of this film, but de Laâge gives such a powerful impression from the opening frames that you are left pining to what's in her thoughts and feelings even when she isn't on screen. Rebecca Hall, The Night House Hall displays grief through her lonesomeness with immense devastation and humor when it becomes too much to handle in crowds. When the noir/horror elements begin there is an earnest yearning to fining out the mystery. This is probably my favorite performance of 2021. Michelle Pfeiffer, French Exit A 2020 movie in my book, but is eligible for this year's AMARA. Frances Price is warmth through icy moments. There is no other more suited than Pfeiffer who draws you in and repels you all in one fell swoop. Kristen Stewart, Spencer I believe this is actually the first time I've ever seen Princess Di portrayed on screen before and WOW! what an incredible display of desperation and slight defiance to the silliest of traditions.
