Jason BaileyVerified account @jasondashbailey THE CIRCLE: Holy cow how is this movie that bad #tribeca
e. whitneyVerified account @cinemabite wow wow wow The Circle is baaad. what a waste of a would-be clever premise. #Tribeca2017
Tomris LafflyVerified account @tomilaffly The Circle is all over the place. When it (rarely) works, reminds you why The Net & Truman Show were so much fun to see for the first time.
Matt JacobsVerified account @tarantallegra "The Circle" fails its premise and is generally quite bad, but it does have Ellar Coltrane yelling "DEATH THREATS, MAE." #tribeca2017
Angie J. HanVerified account @ajhan This movie doesn't have dialogue, it has diatribes, theses & mission statements. Unsurprisingly, stiff performances. #TheCircle #Tribeca2017
Something Iconic @brendoweissman I could write a thesis paper about how awful #TheCircle is

I had doubts as soon as Emma Watson signed on. She's not a movie star and she can't act.

As for the film itself, yeah, Bill Paxton is spinning in his grave...

BatB is pretty much the only time she's had movie star success and that film was going to make tons of money regardless of who was cast. She's like Kristen Stewart, only much less talented and failing to transition into more mature parts as successfully.

And so, you decided to conveniently ignore other two films that I've stated above.
Oh, and I'm willing to bet that Kristen Stewart would've been a horrible choice for Belle. She may be a good actress, but her acting style simply doesn't fit with that kind of role.

Perks did fine but didn't really break out beyond being a solid arthouse success. She's supporting in Noah and even if you credit the modest success of the film to her, it still doesn't negate the fact that she's had several flops before and after as a headliner.

Oh my god, Watson fans are blind, stupid and idiotic if they actually think she's a good actress.

Oh my god, Watson fans are blind, stupid and idiotic if they actually think she's a good actress. Well, those three films didn't get solid reviews without reasons...
And no, I'm not defending her choice of films she's starring in and have a feeling that she either doesn't really have good eyes on film choices or has a pretty bad agent. That does not mean, however, that she's a bad actress.

[/quote] You're stupid. Her complete inability to perform a role convincingly is what makes her a shitty actress. But if you think otherwise, you cannot be taken seriously.

I think the only person who shouldn't be taken seriously here is the one calling another member of this board stupid because they like an actor.

Not surprised. It looked like they were trying to cram the entirety of Black Mirror in a couple of hours

The trailer lacked the urgency needed for this kind of story, so not really a surprise.
I feel bad for John Boyega. I loved him in The Force Awakens and he seems like an awesome guy in real life. Hoping that The Last Jedi and Detroit are better received.

I'm sorry, but you know your credibility is in jeopardy when a person who doesn't share a same actor/actress preference with someone you're insulting calls you out for your callous attitude.
As for harlequinade, I normally like Emma Watson as an actress, but yeah, 'The Circle' was probably not a right film for her.

You're one to talk about credibility when you think Watson is a talented actress. Your bar for judging talent must be so low it's practically subterranean. I can be as callous as I want to foolish people like yourself.

Wow, when did this become the old school pissing contest "I'm right, you're wrong" IMDB boards? The Circle looks pretty bland, and even Tom Hanks can't get me to see it. I like Watson fine, but even as a fan of Harry Potter, I never thought she was a particularly good actress. To the guy that mentioned her three movies, your opinion is valid and I won't be a prick and call you stupid for it, but 1) I thought she was miscast as Belle and delivered an insincere performance, 2) Noah is, to me, a piece of shit and she and Crowe deliver the worst performances in the movie, and 3) she's okay in Perks, though it took me a while to get used to her (and the movie itself, really). So I didn't think she could carry this dumped pre-summer movie.
