No Jared Leto ! Thank God ! He wasn't even the best supporting performance in the film ! Pacino was . I actually thought it was Jeremy Irons.

I suspect the buzz around Gaga is hurting Leto a bit. They aren't competing in the same category or even the same gender, but a Ridley Scott movie with a 61% score on Rotten Tomatoes doesn't feel like the type of project that would be locked to yield multiple acting nods. Leto needed Gaga to have a more ambivalent awards run to be safe, and that kind of went out the window when she won NYFCC.
But I was saying as much with the Pacino fantasies that he might get nodded for House Of Gucci. Not with this movie. No way would it ever get multiple supporting nods. It might not even get one, but if it does, it'll be Leto.

Nightmare Alley gets completely blanked. Not even Cooper could make it, with half of his main competitors in the other category.

I'm sorry but how you gonna give Licorice Pizza: Screenplay Musical/Comedy Actress Actor AND NOT DIRECTOR. Which nominated director do you think he should replace?

I didn't underestimate Affleck at all. On another thread a few weeks ago, some poster (I forget which) said Sean Penn for Liquorice Pizza could end up a shock supporting nominee. I dismissed that out of hand, as no matter how well Liquorice Pizza is doing during awards season, Penn is not in the mix because no one is talking about his performance and its too short. I did however say that I could see Ben Affleck as a "surprise" Supporting Actor Oscar nominee, because he has had a year where his performances where talked about, even though both his films disappointed in different ways. I did pick The Last Duel as his more likely nominated performance, but The Tender Bar could do the trick also. I always saw Affleck as an obvious threat/spoiler for a supporting nod.

Last Duel makes more sense if the film were to catch on, but Tender Bar otherwise. The latter seems more awards friendly, and he’s apparently a borderline co-lead in it.

Also, Don’t Look Up kind of slayed here. Picture, Acting 2x and a Screenplay nom. It’s probably getting into SAG ensemble as well, which would be a pretty solid haul going into PGA. I’m sensing that critics aren’t going to be able to kill this one but we’ll see.

Speaking it into existence: Cooper Hoffman takes that fifth spot.

I have a feeling SAG is going to be messy this year. I can almost see then nominating something completely off the awards season radar for ensemble, like The Harder They Fall
(probably more deserving than Don't Look Up to be fair).

I guess they really hated Nightmare Alley lol. The Tragedy of Macbeth is nowhere to be seen either (except Denzel).

Surprised Cate Blanchett got snubbed by this bunch when they had two shots to nominate her, and she's a favorite of theirs.

Surprised Cate Blanchett got snubbed by this bunch when they had two shots to nominate her, and she's a favorite of theirs. She had no chance whatsoever for Don’t Look Up. Nightmare Alley was completely shutout, so they either hated the film or it’s one of the rumored ones that refused to give screeners to the HFPA. Ruth Negga is much better than her in Passing anyway, so whatever the case, I hope it repeats at SAG.
