I've got to say this was a disappointing outcome. I've always been more of a Fed fan but Djoko getting to 21 and winning the slam at the same time would have been the biggest event in the history of the sport. Especially if it could have been against Nadal with them both at 20, but that was a moot point. I guess the one silver lining is we could still get the "final showdown" between them at the Aussie open next year. Fed is out of gas, and Nadal and Djokovic at the end this year both looked "different". I'd still say Djokovic is likely to get a couple more slams and Nadal is still the favorite for next year's French Open at least, but you never know, when you hit the wall you hit the wall. All three of them stuck at 20 would be a profoundly lame outcome. Despite being known as the best hardcourt player he's getting older and slower so younger players are going to be able to take him on there as we saw here and at the Olympics. He ultimately lost today because of court coverage. I would actually say Wimbledon is where Djokovic is the most likely to get another slam, there's not really a great grass court player right now. He also seemed worn down from the season so after a few months rest he may be ready to go for the Australian Open. It's interesting. Nadal usually comes back strong when he's had a down year or missed most of a season due to injury, so I think he's going to be a huge threat across the slams next year. Moreso with a point to prove that Djokovic isn't inevitable to overtake him. Djokovic's problem now is he is the hunted. Every younger, NextGen player is tailoring their games to beat him, not Nadal (or Federer, who is increasingly seen as less of a threat due to his age). The Olympics and the US Open showed that he will keep having a hard time with younger players. Bit your "hit the wall" point could well be accurate as well. Serena Williams feels like she won't get past 23 slams at this point. This year could have been the last hurrah for Djokovic in terms of slams, or he could win a few more. It's difficult to know

Medvedev was by far the better player and deservingly won his first slam. A disappointing, lifeless performance by Djokovic, he looked completely lost for most of the match. Also, I loved the crowd . The atmosphere was almost like a football match. They turned what was otherwise a boring, error-ridden match into a very entertaining spectacle.

I also don't get the big deal about the crowd. The gallery booing and heckling players they don't like is normal for the US Open, it's not Wimbledon, the atmosphere is more like a normal sporting event. A bunch of Brits/Europeans were being smug with "rude Americans" type comments on Twitter but American sports fans aren't even 1% as bad as crazy European soccer fans where they have to abandon matches when full blown riots break out. So they can STFU.

Yeah I have tbh - I had no problem with the crowd too - I mean Djoko crying was like a major moment for me to see..... Also I think people are going wacky comparing the big 3 atm and - Djoko is the GOAT and if he's not it's Fed in the 00s - I mean he reached the finals of all 4 slams and won 3 at 34 - Federer is likely done and Rafa will only compete at the French at this point - which he may win but no one is going to rank Rafa over Djoko if he wins 22 slams with 15 French over Djoko winning 21 and the variety of his wins .............and also his weeks at #1 ..........and the fact that he's won all the slams twice. Djoko always plays better when he has to come back - heck a year ago he had 17 slams and had almost decapitated a linesperson you know? He's competing at all 4 majors next near - and may be favored in all 4.......those days are gone for the other two. The real interesting question is this: Can Djoko win 25 (I doubt it - but possible).......and now that Medvedev broke through who is the great player out of that new group and can each of the "mini 3" Tsitsipas / Medvedev / Zverev win 10 ........or can any one of them win 10?

Yeah from what I've heard/been told on here, I don't really see a problem with the crowd. That's pretty common for sports crowds around the world, it adds a little something.

Plus side, a different player has broken through. This is great and important. Downside, this whole three way tie at 20 is not over, so we'll have to keep hearing about it.

Just because booing and heckling is common in other sports does not make it so in tennis. Especially not stopping to do so when he is in the process of serving. It's about as much okay as the crowd yelling 'out' during points or something.
