Um, Djoko lost the 1st in about 15 minutes 1-6........that was f'n awful.....to Jenson Brooksby.....set 2 about start...... Djoko wakes up and takes care of business 1-6, 6-3, 6-2, 6-2.........into the quarters against a tougher opponent Matteo Berrettini - this same performance will get Joker bounced out of this tournament tbh.......3 wins away from history though .........but still looking eminently beatable Pliskova is into the quarters as well......... So far Djokovic's draw was very easy. Matteo will be his first test, but I guess he will lift his game as well and Berrettini's one-dimensional style is not really build to beat Djokovic usually.
But this is at least on paper one quarterfinal one can look forward to. Medvedev - van der Zandschulp and Zverev - Harris are really uninteresting for this stage.
Auger-Aliassime vs. Alcaraz would be interesting, but it will be not before 2.30 am for me

Leylah Fernandez, one day after turning 19, tops Elina Svitolina (#5), advances to US Open semifinals Btw does anyone ever watch Aussie Cam Williams and his Youtube tennis channel? Dude is great - he'll do descriptions of matches without video and he's a blast (of course you can listen to him and turn of regular announcers if you're watching it anyway) .......check his channel out - great stuff

Leylah Fernandez, one day after turning 19, tops Elina Svitolina (#5), advances to US Open semifinals I actually managed to watch this game (started 10 pm here, which was a reasonable hour and preferred to watch it over Medvedev, whose game I've always found pretty boring). Wasn't disappointed at all. Some marvelous tennis on display. Never heard of the Canadian girl before, but if she plays like this in her remaining matches, she might win the whole thing.

Djoko (1) vs Zverev (4) Friday in a repeat of his Olympics loss, F. Auger-Aliassime (12) vs Medvedev (2) - so 20 Grand Slams vs 0 combined for the other 3 young bucks ........hmmmmmmmm Fernandez vs Sabalenka (2) and Raducanu vs Sakkari (17) on the female side so only 1 top 10 player left there

His record is 0 wins - 11 losses. I highly doubt that's going to change against Djokovic, but you never know. I'm obviously rooting foe Sakkari to take the women's title. I've only seen her 4th round match, but she looks in good form and looks like she can win this, unless she has one of her usual mental blocks.

I hope we get a Fernandez vs. Raducanu final. Fernandez into the finals - an amazing tournament for her - and Sabalenka comes up really small in the 3rd set (she often does...........)

Medvedev into the finals ......basically the Men's side is the opposite of the female side with all that's left are the top ranked players 1, 2, and 4. Tonight the GOAT vs the guy who beat him at the Olympics.......I'm not gonna say anything about this match because I'd jinx it

Got on the semis tonight, hadn't been watching since I assumed he'd get deep in the tournament. Excellent tennis that last game, Zverev is bringing it.
Edit- Haven't seen all the other times he dropped the first set but Zverev looks good. We'll see if Djokovic can flip the switch and dominate like he did before.

GOAT wins in 5 sets, breaks Zverev's spirit ....almost like he wants to play 10 sets...... As Andy Roddick said a few days ago - Djoko "takes your legs....... then he takes your soul"

Meh, Zverev is too much a mental midget to be able to beat Djokovic in a slam. He plays a brilliant first set then in the second set he can barely get a ball into play. Then plays a great fourth set, and comes into the fifth with the momentum only to break himself in his first service game. Djokovic was there for the taking today, he really was.

Djokovich / Medvedev Coming up fairly soon-ish Played 8 times - Djoko has won 5 and lost 3 but never lost in a 5 set match to him which is sort of his thing........ Djoko really exposed Medvedev in 2021 Australian Final and I don't think Medvedev has added anything "new" to his arsenal tbh ..........on the other hand Medvedev is too good not to eventually win a major - he turns 26 in March ....... Should be something to see either way .....

Well, looks like Djokovic will be going down in straight sets, unless Medvedev implodes.
So no calendar year grand slam for him. Great year for the Serb, and as the youngest of the big 3, with less years on tour, has the least mileage on him to still play near his peak, but I'd say the GOAT race is far from over after this. Olympic Gold and the Calendar Year Grand Slam probably would have sealed it for Djokovic achievement wise but he failed on both counts, so this leaves plenty of room particularly for Nadal, to overtake Djokovic in the GOAT race. Next couple of seasons will be very interesting!

Disgusting crowd, seriously. A lot of them should be banned for life. But what a performance from Medvedev, so much better on the day - Djokovic had no chance today.

History........... DENIED ....... Daniel Medvedev becomes the first of the Zverev / Tsitsipas / Medvedev next gen / young bucks to finally win a slam! .........and the 2nd Russian male to win the US Open ever............in straight sets too - what a performance! .................and btw next years Australian Open will be awesome : All the GOAT's will be back and all still tied at 20 ..........all the young bucks will be there too.......

Congrats to Medvedev....and agreed, horrible crowd!
Ultimately this is good for tennis. A NextGen has finally defeated one of the Big 3 in a Grand Slam final, and the GOAT race remains wide open with all the marbles to play for and all the Big 3 stuck on 20 slams, with time running out for all of them as the younger generation increases in confidence!

Well when you pay $$$$, these obnoxious fools think they can do whatever they want. They're pissed that they couldn't get the instagram story that they want. Everything revolves around that.

I've got to say this was a disappointing outcome. I've always been more of a Fed fan but Djoko getting to 21 and winning the slam at the same time would have been the biggest event in the history of the sport. Especially if it could have been against Nadal with them both at 20, but that was a moot point. I guess the one silver lining is we could still get the "final showdown" between them at the Aussie open next year.
Fed is out of gas, and Nadal and Djokovic at the end this year both looked "different". I'd still say Djokovic is likely to get a couple more slams and Nadal is still the favorite for next year's French Open at least, but you never know, when you hit the wall you hit the wall. All three of them stuck at 20 would be a profoundly lame outcome.
Despite being known as the best hardcourt player he's getting older and slower so younger players are going to be able to take him on there as we saw here and at the Olympics. He ultimately lost today because of court coverage. I would actually say Wimbledon is where Djokovic is the most likely to get another slam, there's not really a great grass court player right now. He also seemed worn down from the season so after a few months rest he may be ready to go for the Australian Open.
