To answer the reason for this thread, I'll give Bruce Dern a mention. Haven't even seen a trailer for The Father yet though, so I'm just throwing a random old dude's name out there. You might be on to something with Bruce Dern, especially if we could get Laura in there in the Colman role. Very meta. Bruce and Laura might actually have been inspired casting. I know a lot of people dislike him since he turned full Republican/Trump shill, but Jon Voight could potentially do something. Though I doubt Angelina Jolie would be willing to take the Colman role to act opposite her father.

If it has an Indian remake, I can actually see Amitabh Bachchan and Deepika Padukone being great in the two roles - the father-daughter dynamics reminded me a bit of Piku, even though The Father is far sadder and deals with a much more depressing subject matter than that film. If Shoojit Sircar and Juhi Chaturvedi come back to direct and write, we'll be looking at an amazing remake. Naseeruddin Shah would be great in the father role as well, with either Tabu or Sanya Malhotra (if we want a younger actress) as the daughter. What say, Drish?

I think both would be awesome especially Bachchan. But I think it would feel repetitive esp after Piku. I'd go for Konkona Sen Sharma for the daughter and maybe Naseer or even Anupam Kher. If we swap the genders I am very confident on my choices then: Surekha Sikri and Pankaj Tripathi (or Kay Kay Menon).

I think Soumitra Chatterjee - The great Satyajit Ray's go to actor - could have been also very good in this role. He died recently.

I even had the ticket booked to see him in the play but I couldn't reach in time because something came up at work.

I can only imagine how devastating the final scene would've been.
