Total Recall (1990) This shit was so much fun. Low-key surprised by how much I liked it. I have a soft spot for Arnold in the 80s and early 90s.
Any thoughts on the "performance" from Lycia Naff? She plays the famous prostitute with a triple threat.

All That Jazz (rewatch) - 11/10
Serious question, does this movie have the best editing of all time? I honestly can't think of anything else.

Serious question, does this movie have the best editing of all time? I honestly can't think of anything else. I don't even think it has the best editing of 1979. ![](https://media.giphy.com/media/v1.Y2lkPTc5MGI3NjExNGdpaG9sZGdja3dmbW05d3lic3BsMTBqdXN3cHFxZ2Fnc290MHdvcCZlcD12MV9pbnRlcm5hbF9naWZfYnlfaWQmY3Q9Zw/l1KVbDmfq8e9JqJos/giphy.gif)

Killing Them Softly (2012). This movie grows and grows on me every time I watch it. So many great scenes throughout. The cast and performances are also fantastic, but I really have to single out Ben Mendelsohn and Scoot McNairy. They are both just so believable as skuzzy, desperate, drug addict low level criminals. Just there mannerisms alone make you totally buy into their characters,

Laapataa Ladies (2024)-
A uniquely Indian story. Funny in parts, heartwarming as a whole. I have couple of minor issues but they didn't stop me from enjoying the film- 7.5/10

Avatar: The Way of Water - 5/10. The Special Effects were incredible. However, the movie went on too long for me.

Godzilla Minus One (2023)-
This is Jaws but with Godzilla. Reminded me of Spielberg's 1975 classic more than once. One of those rare monster films where the human drama is not an obstruction but actually really compelling. CGI is pretty decent for its budget. Could've finished the story in 5-10 min early though- 7.5/10

Serial Mom (1994). One of the most underrated and hilarious dark comedies. Kathleen Turner is so fantastic in this.

Flags of Our Fathers
Never saw this and just took everyone's word for it that it was meh and you only needed to watch Letters From Iwo Jima. Everyone was wrong as usual. I'd say just a half step behind that one, they both deserved BP/BD noms but I get they were only going to choose one. It's not a typical rah-rah movie as everyone says, like 60% of the runtime is about the bureaucrats trying to manipulate the event to make it sound cooler and the soldiers all having PTSD and no one caring and just treating them like sports stars. I swear it feels like so many of the people who critique Clint's movies don't even watch them. Another clear anti war film from Clint, covers similar ground to American Sniper or Saving Private Ryan but better. Making Ryan Phillippe the emotional centerpiece of your movie maybe wasn't a great choice (as with Cooper in American Sniper) but I can look past that because everything else is so good. My no. 3 Eastwood behind Unforgiven and Letters
9/10

A Different Man Yeah, Stan deserved that Silver Bear. Whilst Pearson was so much fun, Reinsve felt a bit stiff (ironic ![:uhoh:](//storage.proboards.com/6692321/images/c8bbBnLz3a98Jzy_29H2.gif) ), but that may have been because English isn't her first language. Didn't fully come together, but there was a lot to like, and I can see this growing on me over time.

Weird Science (1985)
Never saw this teen film when I was a teenager, but now, at 29, I watched it simply because I wanted to find something on the TV I hadn't seen before that I could muster up an iota of interest for (that's the curse of having seen almost 8,000 movies....).
For being a John Hughes film, it doesn't often feel like one of his. It's effects-heavy, and feels more indebted to producer Joel Silver. Admittedly, the scene where they first create Kelly Le Brock's character is a knock-out, and LeBrock's playful performance is the film's chief charm. But then the film forgets about her for long periods, and goes off on weird, gimmicky tangents. There are some perceptive lines about teenagers, but the thing doesn't really fully click. It might have made a better SNL skit than a 90 minute film (even at that short length it feels padded)

Hit Man: I still stand by my determination that Glen Powell is our generation's Bill Paxton in terms of his swagger and charm, and here was Powell's True Lies (albeit without the blockbuster vibe to it). This is effortless old-school movie-star charisma on full display. Now we need him in a Bong Joon-ho movie with Tilda Swinton where they play mother-and-son with matching haircuts.

June Squibb, the woman that you are. Hechinger in this weirdly looked like a cross between me and my cousin.
