The Man Who Knew Infinity
There's just something so endearing and endlessly watchable about Toby Jones.

There were certain scenes she was nude in the dark, and it I don’t think it was a body double unless they did a Game of Thrones style CGI like with Lena Headey’s nude body double during the walk of shame. Do you have a link to the body double for Swain? Was there a body double for the kissing scenes? And the scenes where the camera is tracing her body and lingering in a sexy way? No I don’t think 18yos should be allowed to film sex scenes especially with much older partners

She's Having a Baby (1988, John Hughes) - My least favorite of John Hughes's filmography as a director (haven't seen Curly Sue). Some stuff worked. The lawnmower musical sequence was unexpected, but funny. Maybe it's me, but I felt like Jake (Kevin Bacon) and Kristy (Elizabeth McGovern) both come off as unlikable until Kristy tells Jake that she's pregnant. Davis (Alec Baldwin) becomes unlikable when he tries to make a pass at Kristy. I think it's overall decent, but probably needs a rewatch. - 6/10

The Winning of Barbara Worth (1926): 6/10
It’s ok I guess. Nothing wrong with it really, I just wasn’t very into it which is more of a personal thing rather than something wrong with the movie itself. Just wasn’t my thing. Cool seeing a young Cary Grant tho and the flood scene at the end was enjoyable chaos. Other than that there wasn’t anything really special or that stands out much but there’s nothing terribly wrong with it either. It kills an hour and a half, 6/10 sounds about right

2016 Scavenger Hunt #1
Bad Black (Director: Nabwana I.G.G.) I have to respect any movie in which the narrator says: "Subaru! Subaru Subaru SUBARUUUU! VRRROOOM-PATATATATA-VRMPHA!!!" as a toy Subaru sports car is green-screened into a chase sequence. If there's any one thing that is obvious about Bad Black from the very beginning, it's that it was clearly fun to make. It is a goofy send-up of 80s and 90s action movies that has people using toy guns and crazy martial arts maneuvers that obviously aren't connecting with anyone, and the aesthetic is of some ten year olds getting a camera and making their own home movies. But does that fun translate to the viewer? Ummm.... no. Not really. There are some well-placed gags here and there (a criminal makes the demand of wanting wanting 24 back on TV, calling it the best damn show ever - the policeman looks at his partner and says "That's the drugs talking" ), but this is such a nonsensical, breakneck sequence of random events that it is never anything more than some kids playing with a camera. Which is fine for five minutes, by seventy minutes is an entirely different matter. It never varies, and after the first scene, there is nothing new to be found.

Midnight Run - 9.5/10
One of those charming '80s adult-aimed buddy comedies that would get made into a terrible Mark Whalberg-Kevin Hart Netflix starrer today.
Rouge - 8.5/10
Very different from what I was expecting.

The Bad Guys (2022)
Starting a long flight with an animated movie is starting to become a tradition. Had decent enough fun with this one.

Hot Rod
I can't decide whether this movie would be better or worse received if it was released today. I guess the younger generation today would lap it up.

Here On Out - Five characters you could easily replaced with broomsticks with a paper plate face and still had the same result. Tries hard for a surprise ending (and it would have been) but instead, it undoes the surprise making it not surprising in the least. A dud from the first frame to the last. Horizon Line - Ashley Williams can not act... so of course I end up watching a "horror" where she's on screen for the entire runtime. So basically the premise is that a not-couple-who-totally-just-had-sex are on a plane with no pilot and have to navigate the Caribbean to safety and uh-oh things go south. At least this movie didn't have Chloe Grace Moretz haymakering a gremlin, so it has that going for it. Queen of Spades - Basically the ol' Bloody Mary meets The Exorcist, but in this scenario it's The Exorcist II... but totally stealing the ending from The Exorcist... nearly a frame by frame theft, at that. It's not the worst movie I've seen in a while, but it's not good. 7 Days - Pretty funny romcom that I had to put on in the midst of all these horror films. Cliche, but it works. Top Gun: Maverick - Awesome. Basically a remake of the original in nearly every way... still, a lot of fun. Also, this isn't winning BP. Pirhana 3D - I got to see pretty ladies, so there's that. Even for a campfest, this was a bit much. Butttttttttttt... butts and boobs. Four stars. The Final Ride - A Canadian Anthology film, eh? I should have said nay. The framing story worked at the start, the 80's fitness guru ghost segment was abysmal and had one of the worst performances by an actor ever, the tattoo story was actually interesting but it's lead by a terrible performance, and then the framing story's conclusion (where it was actually good) comes to a horrid end undoing all the good it had going for it at the start. Still, that was one intense Uber ride. Exam - I would have really, really liked this if each character wasn't just some one-dimensional stock image. Him? Mr. White? Dick. Mr. Black? Bleeding heart. Mr. Brown? Sneaky fucker. Ms. Blonde? Token hot chick (well, actually all the women were attractive... it is the motion pictures after all). From the Dark - So since I'm probably one of maybe twelve people in the world who has seen this, let me break it down like a fraction for you. Couple in woods. Creature in woods. Creature hunts couple. Couple find creature's weakness. Spoiler: it's light. GASP! I shit you not (and this is an actual scene from the movie) the creature gets repelled by opening the refrigerator . Let that sink in. Not only was the premise dumb but I got to a point where I had to pee and me thinking there's only like 10 minutes left in the movie paused it to reveal I still had another 40 to go. So it was dumb and felt like an eternity. I don't know what I'm doing with my life anymore.

Le Notti Bianche - Such a gorgeous film. There are so many beautiful shots in this movie it's insane, and Mastroianni was just so swoony. Natalia annoyed me to no end, though. If she had been more likeable this would've been an instant favourite. 8/10. Ikiru - I guess Kurosawa just isn't my cup of tea. Some of the quotes were great, but overall I was quite indifferent to it. 6.5/10. Forbidden Games - At the beginning I really hated Paulette, then she became much more sympathetic so I felt bad for hating her at the beginning, then I hated all the adults. Pauvre Michel et Paulette 8/10. Kind Hearts and Coronets - Amongst the best I've seen this year. It's so sharp and witty and beautifully-lit and acted. 10/10.

Cell 213 - Loved the last scene (not the ending, just the scene), but everything before it was blah. What's that? Spooky ghost out of nowhere?! Wow, you got me! I didn't see it coming after the 20th time you did it before...
Moonfall - I knew what I was doing. I regret it, but I knew. You know when they rerelease an old game and it's exactly the same as the original with marginally better graphics? This is 2012's rerelease. I do have to say that some of the VFX were great, and yet they somehow fuck up a greenscreen motorcycle ride. I don't know how that works.
The Eyes of My Mother - Chapter I is fucking brilliant. The rest of the movie, is not. I was so hooked and then I was completely put off in a matter of minutes. Shame.
