The Heavenly Kid ---- 1985 (Re-Watch) Pretty good 1980's teen comedy. I have probably watched it more times than I can count. Still a pretty sweet, charming (in a 1980's teen comedy type of way) movie that I can go back to every few years to watch.

Hillbilly Elegy - Oh look! Another movie that justifies familial abuse and manipulation because “Family is the most important thing.”

The Hand of God: Yeah, I just don't think Sorrentino is for me. I liked it more than The Great Beauty, but that's damning with the faintest praise.

City of God (2002) - I know everyone is supposed to love this, and it certainly isn't without its own brand of energy, but... I just found it mind-numbingly repetitious.

The Life and Times of Judge Roy Bean. Interesting but uneven film. Went in blind so didn’t know what to make of it at first. Once I realized it was a comedy it made a bit more sense to me. Felt like it never found the right balance though.

Felt like it never found the right balance though. I read she hated Newman irl. Not sure if that’s actually true.

Pittsnogle_Goggins - Oh, goodness no! She had a blast making this film. As far as I know, the only person she ever worked with whom she actively hated was Charlton Heston. And can you blame her?

Pittsnogle_Goggins - That goes against everything else I've ever read or heard (including from her family), so I'm not sure.

Saw Cruel Intentions again for like 72nd time and I fucking looove SMG in this so much. This is one of those super entertaining performances like Maggie Smith in Gosford Park, Jack Lemmon in Some Like it Hot that I watch the films only for them again and again. Such a nasty little film as well. Love it. And yes, SMG is iconic as Kathryn. 😍 anyone else really love this film?

watched Strangers on a Train (1951) last night. This one's been in my watchlist for probably a decade, glad to finally have it behind me. Some gorgeous shots (the glasses murder reflection) and Walker's performance aside, this was merely solid to me. Farley Granger is a weak protagonist with not much personality. Walker is clearly having the most fun as the gay-coded villain with a mischievous grin plastered onto his face, and the cast is otherwise pretty good apart from Granger (especially Ruth Roman as Granger love interest who should've had a bigger role). The carousel scene at the end was batshit crazy and filming it was super dangerous. Hitchcock said that if things had gone wrong "it would have gone from being a suspense film into a horror film." All in all a good movie and worth seeing for Walker alone.

My girl group in middle school all really appreciated Ryan Phillipe, or more specifically his booty. Interesting that your first thought was SMG tho. But I guess there's a little something for every one with this movie.

Esio Trot (2015) Besides the annoying James Corden narrator, a light little movie made funnier, sweeter, let's call it - altogether better bc of Judi Dench's lovely and radiating perf.

Oh honeys, I finally got around to watching the mother of all melodramas. Very Fifties and where misogynistic men throw around the words like 'tramp' and 'white trash'. One thing is for certain, Blannie certainly watched a lot of Betty Bacall before channeling her in Nightmare Alley, that's for sure. There's a lot of story crammed in here for a neat 99 mins. 5.5/10

Buffalo Bill and the Indians, or Sitting Bull’s History Lesson. Well it’s definitely a Robert Altman film.

The Best Years of Our Lives. Talk about a timeless film. I loved everything about it. Esp. Dana Andrews. What a hunk. That leather jacket. 10/10

Everything Everywhere All At Once: Michelle Yeoh was fantastic as per usual, but I'm gonna be the conductor on the Ke Huy Quan Oscar train and y'all better get on now.

The Cursed: I wish it had retained its original title Eight for Silver, because aside from the rather bland re-titling, this movie is rad as hell. Evocatively moody and atmospheric, it's a damn fine slice of period horror.

The Lavender Hill Mob: This was such an adorable, charming, entertaining heist comedy. Alec Guinness was a gift.

Oh honey, Imitation of Life. Mine as well !! but I have to say, I'm a little surprised you didn't like Written on the Wind that much, the main titles sequence alone deserves a 10. And as a whole gets away with plenty of taboo subjects under the code of the time. More than any of his others films I've seen, Written... is the most unusual, is so locked/attached to the 50s yet feels very modern... but yeah, maybe a little to crowded. To me, Magnificent Obsession is Sirk's lowest point, the reason why Wyman's goes blind... is pure trash and yet looks amazing.
