my favorite film I've ever seen. Watched it for the first time on a snow Feb. night projected on 35mm and fell into its swoon hard. Now on subsequent re-watches it extends itself as my favorite. You guys are too much

Is portrait of a lady on fire really that good or is this recency bias? Mix of both?

I didn’t vote for it, and while I think there is recency bias, it is a sensational film.

Is portrait of a lady on fire really that good or is this recency bias? Mix of both? Obviously depends on who you ask but I genuinely think it is that good and it's only gone up in my estimation over time. Was #3 on my ballot.

Is portrait of a lady on fire really that good or is this recency bias? Mix of both? this one feels like it could absolutely stand the test of time when regarding broader audiences. Something like La La Land has somewhat fallen off a cliff in the last few years when talking about these poll things. It probably would've been a top-10 contender had we done this in 2016/17. POALOF, It's really that good and there could be some recency bias at hand here

Is portrait of a lady on fire really that good or is this recency bias? Mix of both? I was left cold by it. Much like the superior Moonlight, I found it clinically ticking the boxes. It's just that they're boxes that arthouse moviegoers like as opposed to the general populace, so it had a bit of a mystique going. In the end, the narrative is pretty cliche, it's just told entirely in glances and looks as opposed to anything resembling character development. Edit: But then, I'm not a romance guy. This whole list is the definition of "meh" to me.

I really need to rewatch “Her” because I thought it was a lovely, original movie but not an essential romance movie.

Before Sunset! Now that I can get behind! Not Her, though. I despised that movie, entirely because I felt that the central romance was written by a computer.
Wait, a computer wrote Sunspring, a surprisingly romantic film. I guess Jonze needs to step up his game to match that.

I didn't put this on my ballot because I think that the romance is... boring. Terribly so. The bromance between Inigo and Fezzik is great (when are we getting a bromance list?) and I LOVE the movie as a whole.
