Question: Who do you think is going to win Best Picture (Palme d'Or)? I'm just going by my personal perception in the few interviews and conferences the jury made at the beginning of the festival and the majority expressed their interestin politics and social issues on film, so as of now I think A Hero or The Divide could be strong contenders.

Yeah, this definitely feels like a socially conscious jury and I feel like statements will want to be made, but there's so many films that could be applicable as "statement movies."

Question: Who do you think is going to win Best Picture (Palme d'Or)? My original choice was The Divide, which has the strong social factor. My alternate after seeing reactions is Titane, for pure entertainment factor.

For sure, but if there's some truth in those rumours about the divide (haha) within the jury, both of those movies I mention above gave me I Daniel Blake, Dheepan, The Wind that Shakes the Barley vibes ( the juries in those years were not exactly bffs ). I think those kind of movies would be the common ground for all of them.

I only know Lebrun from The Mother And The Whore (1973) where she's my win for the year. Idk if Argento has ever had such a sizable acting role.... Not a Noe fan, but fascinated by this... The Guardian gave it 5/5 stars, more reviews coming soon. Small clip...

Now that all films have premiered in comp, I'll take a wild stab at post-screening awards.
Palme d'Or: Drive My Car Grand Prix: Memoria Jury Prize: A Hero Best Director: Juiia Ducournau, Titane Best Actor: Caleb Landry Jones, Nitram Best Actress: Achouackh Abakar Souleymane, Lingui Best Screenplay: The Divide
That said, it's hard to imagine Casablanca Beats or Red Rocket would go home empty-handed . . .

But I feel like this year is all about trying to Tetris in the jury's disparate tastes more than usual. I love that we both agree on Ducournau, though.

Predictions:
Palme d'Or: A Hero Grand Prix: Memoria Jury Prize: Tie between The Divide and Lingui Director: Julia Ducournau, Titane Actor: Simon Rex, Red Rocket Actress: Renate Reinsve, The Worst Person in the World Screenplay: Drive My Car
Something like this, although I also think Casablanca Beats, Ahead's Knee and Nitram could win something as well. Anyways, maybe because of the one year gap but I don't recall being particularly curious to see the whole official selection in a while.

Been checking out videos on the official channel and just realized The French Dispatch didn't have a press conference. Anyone know why?

Been checking out videos on the official channel and just realized The French Dispatch didn't have a press conference. Anyone know why? One theory/rumour is that Wes didn't want to answer questions about Scott Rudin.

Word on the street is that it's either a tie for the Palme, or that Titane is winning it (both could be true). Also Nitram most likely won something, so I think stephen is getting his wish with Cannes Best Actor winner Caleb Landry Jones.

Isabel Sandoval’s tweet definitely makes me think Titane has won the Palme. What an inspired pick if true!

Ties are fairly common, and we've had Palme ties in the past. But yeah, seems like the consensus is that Titane took the Palme. I've also heard there might be a special achievement award given out, similar to Venice's Golden Osella, and I feel like that's where Annette will win.

Based on the rumours that 9 films are getting awarded today, I think there’s a tie AND a Special Award (ala The Image Book and It Must Be Heaven).
Here’s my guesses: Palme d’Or - TITANE by Julia Ducournau Grand Prix - DRIVE MY CAR by Ryusuke Hamaguchi Prix du Jury - MEMORIA by Apichatpong Weerasethakul and A HERO by Asghar Farhadi Best Director - Nadav Lapid for AHED’S KNEE
Best Actor - Caleb Landry Jones for NITRAM Best Actress - Renate Reinsve for THE WORST PERSON IN THE WORLD Best Screenplay - Andris Feldmanis, Livia Ulman and Juho Kuosmanen COMPARTMENT NO.6 Special Award - ANNETTE by Leos Carax
