Blue Velvet is not the 5th best movie of the 80s. Get the fuck out of here. No, it's the second.

Really quite shocked BV isn't higher. Didn't expect a runaway first-place victory for it ala Mulholland Drive in the aughts poll, but I did think it had a chance to eke out a first place finish here.

#5“Let's fuck! I'll fuck anything that moves!”Blue Velvet1986~ David Lynch386 points from 23 ballots Highest Placement: #1 on 2 ballots-- stephen Ha, I knew it! From before this list started, I predicted BV would rank the highest of the films on my personal Top 10 (it's my #8).

Michael Chapman gets the B*W visuals absolutely right. Pesci adds feeling, saving its rinse-repeat scenes. Idk....I'm a huge Scorsese/De Niro fan, and I rewatched it two days ago… Still don't get it....

#4“You didn't get me down, Ray.”Raging Bull1980~ Martin Scorsese387 points from 24 ballots Highest Placement: #1 on 5 ballots-- ibbi Raging Bull ranks lower than most people think it would for me........but that's the difference between its amazing artistry and my personal taste.......I don't love Raging Bull but there's like nothing wrong with that movie in any way........there's more stuff wrong with ME than is wrong with that movie .........but I don't try to shoehorn people into my mindset and see it like I do. We just say I'm weird and leave it at that ......

absolutely stunned at BR making top-3 Me too, but BACK TO THE FUTURE being there is faaaar more outrageous. At least BR is still a GREAT film, but BTTF being Top 3 is like HOME ALONE being in the Top 10 for the 90's. Good fun film, but way way waaaay overrated. I've NEVER understood why so many people are in love with it. 🤷♂️🤷♂️

I mean, it's good...but it's very of its own time and seems kinda old hat nowadays. Never one of my favorites but I understand the freewheeling, nostalgic appeal it carries.

Excellent #1, glad the bloated "director's cut" didn't bring it down. Side note: Hate how it is so much harder to find the theatrical cut these days.
