Absolutely baffling... and pretty hilarious because this is essentially the score he would later win his Oscar for

Just watched The Thing in time for the poll, and while it may be a bit too soon, it went straight into my top 10. Such a brilliantly unnerving portrayal of paranoia.
Do the Right Thing was second on my list - unquestionably Spike's masterpiece to me.

#13, 14 and 15 are very obvious ones!!
I thought The Empire Strikes Back would have been much higher tbh.
Good for The King of Comedy!! Almost in the last 10!!

I don't like the ending either, it's kind of a bunt when Spike probably thought it was a home run just due to being provocative (which seems to be a trend with him, he cops out thematically in favor of something superficially shocking or edgy). But the movie was never not going to be in the top ten so it is what it is.

It's not that good, fellas. And yeah, the ending blows goats. If you're talking about DTRT, you need therapy. I understand the ending is divisive, I think its inevitable & 100% fitting for the film's message, but the film is a MASTERPIECE.

Public Enemy over that anarchistic backdrop is the perfect sendoff.

Whatever @ The Shining. Jack gives a glorious OTT comedy performance but the rest of the movie just ain't that good. One of Kubrick's worst.

For me, the ending of Do The Right Thing is why I I think the film is a masterpiece. Spike just lays it all out on there, and I find it to be supremely effective.

Would never have thought The Shining would be #7 but I don't mind at all. A Kubrick classic, a Nicholson classic, a classic thriller.

His best, but DTRT is definitely 2nd best.

#7“All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy.” The Shining1980~ Stanley Kubrick342 points from 25 ballots Highest Placement: #2 on 1 ballot-- notacrook It's a great horror, insanely underrated by some on this board because people really want those topiary animals to come to life which is the only time I've ever seen a film written off by landscaping enthusiasts ..........also has my favorite stupid character in movie history........Scatman Crothers, safe and warm in Florida, decides to get on a plane, save the day, goes into the frozen wasteland and well, you know. Remember that people - do not try, at anything, ever.........

Since we're still talking about Do the Right Thing, the better ending would have been to finally have Mookie and Sal have it out verbally from the tension that had been building up. The riot is a way of acknowledging the tension without actually saying anything important. Which is sort of what riots are in real life, although that's not the point Spike was trying to make.

I was trying to decide what movie to watch today, and this reminded me I've been wanting to see this one FOREVER. Plus, I'll only have "Criterion Channel" for another 2 months, and I still have at least 8 or 10 MUST SEES streaming there I've yet to see, so I need to hurry up. Plus, Nastassja Kinski at her prime is EASILY my #1 all-time most beautiful woman. 😍😍
