Still voting in Nomadland, even because there isn't that much competition.

I'm not sure why people are confident in One Night in Miami. I'd love to hear from whoever voted for it.

Once again going with Nomadland but mostly because I'm a little disappointed by the movies I've seen so far...
Ma Rainy, Mank, Da 5 Bloods were ok but nothing very special imo. I liked Trial of the Chicago 7 a bit more but it's not winning...

Black is King seems to be on its last legs. Even it’s biggest supporters (me) seem to have forgotten about it.
Might jump ship for The Prom next month...

Oh, if you bail on Black is King right when it's poised to surge forward, you're gonna look real foolish. Commit. You’re right, you’re right. My love for Meryl Streep is clouding my judgement. I have to remember that the Academy voters aren’t as enamoured with her films as I am. Thanks for keeping me on track. xoxo

I’m still not feeling Nomadland but nothing else is really standing out either.

Nomadland. Maybe they’ll be basic ala Green Book and give it to The Trial of the Chicago 7. I don’t think anything else is winning though.

I'm voting for One Night in Miami just because it's still so under the radar. It's widely unseen and there isn't enough coverage of it to really rule it out yet for me. Mostly everything else that has been seen, I don't see winning BP (Da 5 Bloods being the closest exception, definitely over Ma Rainey). It's still most likely Nomadland, but that would be the first time since 12 Years a Slave that something has maintained frontrunner status for so long. I do think Nomadland will win, but if something were to spoil it, the only thing I think that could be positioned to do so at this point would be One Night in Miami, until it's been seen enough to fully rule out.

I'd be blind-predicting US vs Billie Holiday if that whole situation wasn't so radio silent. It just officially shifted over to Hulu a few days ago, but their marketing and release are so lagged it'll probably be an awards nothing, deserved or not. Outta the options I have no clue.... I feel like voting for Little Things over these....

I did, and I appreciate the response, I'm just saying I wholeheartedly disagree. I'm saying One Night in Miami isn't even in the Top 7 most likely films to win, it's a lower-tier BP nom kind of film. Have no idea why it is 2nd in this poll, considering besides you, none has even attempted to explain their reasoning. But this poll isn't something I would take too seriously anyway, considering Black is King and The Prom are still on it.

He's one of the sources I heard on it, yeah, but I did hear a couple of vague apocryphal statements stating some disappointment as well outside of him. Take them with a massive grain of salt, of course.

And I guess Streep can never ben completely counted out.

Billie Holiday, on paper, is someone that is just the perfect person to stage a biopic around. A fraught life full of juicy drama that would make Judy Garland blush -- the Academy loves films about tormented artists. Diana Ross was nominated for an Oscar for playing her in 1972, so the material is definitely awards-friendly and has a proven track record. On a side-note, Tony legend Audra McDonald played Holiday to masterful effect in an adaptation of Lady Day at Emerson's Bar and Grill. Then there's that star-in-the-making narrative, the very same that made Jennifer Hudson an overnight sensation, that could work in Andra Day's favor. But then there's the Lee Daniels of it all.

Oh honey, Lee Daniels has said that his inspiration was the Diana Ross movie - which was wildly inaccurate to begin with. I love Billie Holiday but I fear this is going to be like the Nina Simone movie, where accuracy didn't play any part in it.

True, I guess it's silly to count her out based on this considering Renee just won for Judy even given its middling reviews (although I adored Judy).
