#54Election (Alexander Payne, 1999)
urbanpatrician says: Insidiously entertaining. With dark and kind of cruel-spirited subject matter.
101 points. 8 ballots. Highest placing #4 (on 1 person's list) #54The Matrix( Lana Wachowski, Lilly Wachowski, 1999)
urbanpatrician says: There's nothing like living in 1999. Being there to witness the peak of moviegoing ala The Matrix. That review up there sums it up for me.101 points. 11 ballots. Highest placing #3 (on 1 person's list) #52Groundhog Day(Harold Ramis, 1993)
urbanpatrician says: The Bill Murray legacy is in full effect at this point. Now his films become unforgettable classics.
103 points. 10 ballots. Highest placing #6 (on 1 person's list)

Well, at about the halfway point, my favorites so far to make the cut are Good Will Hunting, Funny Games, The Ice Storm, Twelve Monkeys, The Green Mile, The Blair Witch Project, and The Sixth Sense (which should have been higher IMO). To be fair, though, I've probably only seen about half of what's made the list thus far.

Hey guys, my internet access is screwing up here. Sorry. Let's start tomorrow at same time 5:00 Eastern/2:00 Pacific. I didn't plan on this, but it's lagging badly. My thread takes 30 tries to post. I'll move to a spot with better internet tomorrow..... like Starbucks or something. Sorry for the disappointment, but this isn't really my fault.

Well, I'll comment on what is here so far. Movies marked bold made by ballot. Honorable mentions: Don't think any made my list, but a solid bunch of movies there. The Iron Giant - Great fun, one of the best family movies of the decade. Casino - Screw Goodfellas, this is where it's at. The Sixth Sense - Moved this off of my ballot on a rewatch. The stuff with Cole and his mother is capital G Great, the rest is eh. Metropolitan - Best film of the decade. In the Name of the Father - Found it pretty standard, but decent enough. Perfect Blue - I consider this Kon's worst film, but it is still quite good. Like all of his, it gets better in retrospect. The Ice Storm - Ugh. Trainspotting - Energetic, surprisingly fun. I quite like it. Starship Troopers - What? Like... really? *Shrug* Whatever, it could be worse. Misery - Terrifically unsettling. Scariest King adaptation, easily. Rosetta - YES. My #3. Utterly brilliant. After Life - Just missed my ballot by one or two spots. One of the most affecting movies from a master filmmaker. The Talented Mr. Ripley - Fun, but Purple Noon is better. The Green Mile - Boooooring. Dead Man - This is my kind of atmospheric horror. Three Colors: White - My #12. Best movie of the trilogy. Pitch black comedy on free trade? Yes please. Toy Story 2 - The outright funniest movie in the series? Lacking in the dramatic department, but who cares when it is this much fun. American History X - I thought this was hated here? Well, I'm a fan. Norton is a beast and it's never less forceful than a sock on the jaw, which works in its favor. La Belle Noiseuse - Somehow, I wasn't bored. I'm no big fan either, but this held my interest for four hours. Screw that stupid ending though. The Last of the Mohicans - It has style. Not bad. Leon - This was insipid at best, child fetishization at worst. Ew, outside of a couple neat action sequences. Twelve Monkeys - It's solid and fun, if forgettable. Dazed and Confused - YUCK. But then, that's only because I have the utmost revulsion for the music and cast of characters and everything they think about. Only Yesterday - My #5, and I probably should have placed it higher. Takahata's most transporting work. Naked - Blistering. I'm not sure I ever want to see it again, but boy is it a throat grabber. Good Will Hunting - The most "there" movie that will make the list, I'm guessing. I mean... it's there. I have nothing to say, it's a nonentity, I don't like it or dislike it. The Age of Innocence - Aggressively dull. Braveheart - 'Tis fun. Good actioner. La Haine - I found it a bit aimless, but it had high points that balance that out. The Straight Story - It's so nice, like a soft blanket. Election - Really solid black comedy that skewers the election cycle better than probably any other film. I need to give it a rewatch. The Matrix - Fun action movie, but there isn't anything else here. Groundhog Day - Haven't seen this since I was a kid. I liked it then, but I've become much more of a Murray fan now. Not seen: Dracula Funny Games The Virgin Suicides A Summer's Tale Buffalo '66 Crash Dark City Man Bites Dog Heavenly Creatures The Blair Witch Project Glengarry Glen Ross The Piano Wild at Heart Leaving Las Vegas Ed Wood Satantango Underground All About My Mother

I'm at work and can't enjoy the presentation as much as I'd like!
Imo some films are very low (American History X, Casino, In the Name of the Father, Green Mile) bit I'm happy they made the top 100.

Pretty good list so far. There will be always some films I'm not a fan of (mostly Leon, The Sixth Sense and The Matrix), but apart from those the list is very solid. And it's nice to see some great films I actually didn't expect to end up on here (After Life, Man Bites Dog, La Belle Noiseuse) and of course I love that Crash and Underground made it, even though the should have been at least 50 places higher.

This has showed up already, but an error pushed this up a couple of points, or rather pushed Lost Highway down a few points. #49Groundhog Day (Harold Ramis, 1993)

Haven't seen Lost Highway. I've mentioned my thoughts on Groundhog Day. Rushmore is good fun. So far we aren't screwing things up. Fingers crossed for Raise the Red Lantern and The Remains of the Day.

Bah.......humbug.......a movie about faith from an atheist who can't even remotely understand faith........ and irl the only people I know who like it are other atheists Great performance though ..........surprised this isn't higher given his (incomprehensible to me) cult ....
