I'm not surprised by this route. I am surprised for $125 million?!?!?! Highly doubt that investment will pay off.

Another one skipping cinemas... Appears to be mainly Paramount releases, right?

And there I was, wondering why there was still no trailer or even stills...
Seems like a weird move. Why not take advantage of the holiday season and release it as planned? Does March seem that better for Amazon? Were they scared of...online competition from WW84 and Soul? A bit weird tbh.

I haven't even posted on this thread, so I think you are overestimating how much interest I have in this project . I think Murphy is an absolute comedy legend and whatnot, and Dolemite Is My Name was definitely a timely reminder of his unique brilliance and perhaps sign of a career renaissance (as well as his Emmy winning SNL hosting stint), but Eddie has made a lot of shit in his time so I don't automatically look forward to every project he does (I mean, Beverly Hills Cop 3 was dogshit! And stuff like Pluto Nash sucked balls, so his script selection has been questionable in the past. He never lost his talent, but he misused it in a lot of poor projects). And while the original Coming To America was great, I'm not too sure we needed a sequel 30 years later. I'll wait for the reviews, but am cautiously optimistic, especially since he seems to have ditched the family friendly kiddie comedies as well which he milked for too long.lol!

For real, after 2020, I need at least 15 minutes of just listening to those guys in the barbershop again.

Damn, James Earl Jones still looks the same. Arsenio is damn near 60. What are they drinking?

This was my favorite trailer of the two trailers released this morning. (Not sure how I feel about the storyline about Akeem having a son out there, but it was great seeing him and Arsenio doing the barber shop characters again.)

Looks promising. Still need to see more though. I hope it's not just a "greatest hits" rehash of the first movie's best bits, and that's what the barber shop scene was giving me. It's exactly what I'm worried about when I talk about a sequel 30 years later potentially being pointless.
Could be really good, or really lazy. Jury is stil out.

Could be really good, or really lazy. Jury is stil out. This is exactly what I'm expecting especially after the teaser, but honestly it still cracked me up. Even recycled 80s Eddie and Arsenio is still funnier than most things. I'm just going to throw it out there that I wonder if the son will really turn out to be Semmi's because he was a man whore type while I can't see Akeem sleeping with other women in NYC after he met Lisa. I guess it could have been before that, I think the bar scene was before he met her later on, but that doesn't seem like the original character, sleeping with the rose petal throwers yes but with anyone he met in that club, nah.

Probably cause Eddie allowed how to dominate his couple of big scenes in Dolemite is My Name. Movie could totally be a rehash of the first down to repeating jokes, but that trailer made me smile quite a bit. Hopefully it turns out to be strong entertainment.

They really should've released it during the eligibility period of this Oscar season. The makeup and costume design nominations the first movie got would've been repeated in this barren year for sure.

Agreed and Murphy probably would’ve gotten a Golden Globe nom for Musical/Comedy if this film came out decent/good during the eligibility period. As a matter of fact I can’t think of 5 Best Actor nominees for Musical/Comedy right now.
