This has been disappointingly rated PG-13 for crude and sexual content, language and drug content.

Eddie off to a rough start atm - 51% off 49 reviews. Trailers were abysmal to me ........but I would expect this to improve and get a lot of easy passes reviews too ... www.rottentomatoes.com/m/coming_2_america

Sounds like it's a disappointing many years later more mediocre follow-up. Eh, I suppose I've been disappointed worse before.

A lot of the reviews are exactly what I said/expected..."a greatest hits rehash" of the first film. It's why I was wary of this being made at all....sequels to classics like Coming To America can be completely uneneccesary, especially after so long. Still, these reviews aren't that awful (up to 53% on RT with 62 reviews). So it could actually be a pretty good/enjoyable watch, as long as you don't have your expectations too high and don't expect anything original.

I don't expect to hate the movie, it'll probably just be something that I can put on in the background, and just enjoy as is. I do hope that Murphy brings a lot of that classic energy though, even if he's much older. The original is actually a much sweeter movie then people give it credit for.

"53%? but but I thought all black films were supposed to get stellar reviews so not to piss off the openly black people."
I believe Armond White (who is not, "White") and Jeff Wells (who is white) float this idea for prestige-Oscar bait pics mostly - though clearly it doesn't apply in all cases - US vs. Billie Holiday for one - which White absolutely loathed and is one of the best written reviews of the whole year and White & Wells wouldn't say it applied to EVERY movie anyway but I'm sensing a pattern where we "pretend" that it does and change what they actually said. This is what White actually said about Billie Holiday btw: "A salacious Black Lives Matter Scam" classic Armond White form, huh? I haven't seen it but I'd reckon he thinks its 54% is too high - his opinion - no big deal. The point is we'll never know with ratings in the aggregate - the 51% RT MAY be inflated for a bunch of reasons - may be it's 41% or 61% maybe - who cares? It's just their theories anyway.......no big deal. www.nationalreview.com/2021/03/the-united-states-vs-billie-holiday-is-a-salacious-blm-scam/

Armomd White is an obnoxious and embarrassing troll that was kicked out of the New York Film Critics Circle for heckling and yelling abuse at Steve McQueen while he was accepting his Best Director Award for 12 Years A Slave at the NYFCC awards ceremony. He (thankfully) holds little influence these days in critical circles, least of all in Black critical circles. White cinephiles mostly think he's a troll and black cinephiles mostly think he's a self-hating opportunist. deadline.com/2014/01/armond-white-kicked-out-of-new-york-film-critics-circle-663585/White's schtick for years was to be ridiculously contrarian in general and to also attack just about any highly regarded black film artist (like McQueen), I guess to prove to his fellow white critics that he was willing and ready to attack major artists of his own color. Thankfully nobody really gives a shit about what he has to say about anything these days (long gone are the days when people on IMDB would be frothing at the mouth over one of his attention seeking hottakes), though he's somehow still gainfully employed. White sometimes reminds me of this Bernie Mac character:

Armond White is a gay black male Conservative so he doesn't have the luxury or the privilege of some which is part of his point, all he has are his words and this joke/quote (below/in bold) really twisted his words and was unfair to him. Period. .......Other than that, I would agree with many of the anti-Armond White comments as a critic (though sometimes he is on point) - please refer to this thread for my take on him if anyone is curious. I don't think there are many good critics in 2021 anyway. movie-awards-redux.freeforums.net/thread/1793/movie-critics-best-worst"53%? but but I thought all black films were supposed to get stellar reviews so not to piss off the openly black people."
