Agree on Abbey Road, Come Together is great but John was more interested in drugs and Yoko at that point, Something is one of the greatest songs of all time but Here Comes the Sun is fluff, and then Paul goes all the way into soft rock at that point, not nearly as into the medley as some people. Then the whole sound of is just canned. John Lennon agrees with me here. Almost nothing sounds like a real instrument on it and it got worse on the remaster. That's the case on the bulk of Wings and Paul's solo work too so I think it's a result on his increased influence on the band at that point.

I mean artists aren't always the best judges of their own work, but could you cite examples of songs and instruments that sound "fake" to you? Just saying nothing sounds like a real instrument doesn't actually tell me anything and just comes across as hyperbole.

Pretty much all of the guitar sounds like it could be keytar or something and all the strings outside of maybe Something sound like synth or mellotron strings even though they were apparently real. It's just unnaturally clean as a recording.

Apart from Something, strings are only used on Here Comes the Sun, Golden Slumbers, Carry That Weight, and The End, and to my ears the only time they really stand out to me as sounding electronically-generated is Golden Slumbers. I guess it doesn’t bother me because I first heard the song and album before I knew any details of the production behind it, so I had no expectations for what different elements of the texture “should” sound like... the sound of it just “is” and I love it for what it is. I’m also someone who doesn’t necessarily prefer albums to sound like live performances, so the “cleanness” of the recording isn’t something I consider a flaw at all.

Usher 20 years ago had a diamond album with physical sales. Swift is the biggest artist right now and has a worldwide cult at her disposal, but her album sales are not interesting. She's yet to really match Adele in that respect.

I find her incredibly annoying and her fans even more so.
She does serve one function though: getting women under 35 to vote in November. Other than the Russians, no one needs another 4 years of Trump presidency.

She's yet to really match Adele in that respect. True at their individual PEAKS but she creates 5 times the amount of product content too - Like wrap your head around this (interesting, no?) stat: ***************************** Among female recording artists, Swift has the most No. 1 albums on the Billboard 200 albums chart with 13. If "Tortured Poets" claims the top spot in its first week, it will be her 14th album to do so. Of Swift's 15 albums to date (11 studio albums + four re-recorded "Taylor's Version" releases), her 2006 self-titled debut is the only album from her discography that didn't reach No. 1 on the Billboard 200 (it peaked at No. 5).
If "TTPD" rises to the top spot, Swift will tie Jay-Z as the artist with the second-most No. 1 albums on the chart. The Beatles currently hold the title for the most No. 1 Billboard 200 albums with 19, but Swift appears to be inching closer to challenging the legendary rock band's record.
"Considering that she's earned seven No. 1 albums in the last four years – not counting TTPD! – it certainly seems like she could catch up to The Beatles in a few years," Keith Caulfield, managing director of charts & data operations at Billboard, told CNN in an email on Monday.

Taylor Swift should not get to anoint the president lol In about 12-18 months her fanbase will become Republicans anyway as they realize that they now can't afford to buy a home, are involved in multiple wars and a jar of mayo costs ~ $9.50..........what? Not funny? From Forbes: “Some 45% of avid fans are millennials, people between the ages of 27 and 42, while 23% are baby boomers, 21% are Gen Xers and just 11% are members of Gen Z—those 26 and under.”

I am one of the only ones here who actually is Gen Z lmao

To me with electric guitar I want to hear the fuzz and crunch. If you're going to clean up the electric guitar you might as well just play acoustic as far as I'm concerned. Abbey Road was immensely influential and pretty much created that clean FM radio 70's classic rock sound that people like Fleetwood Mac, Eagles, or McCartney in his own solo work had in the 70's. I'm not a fan of that sound so to me that's not a positive development but it's a personal preference thing. Lennon's solo work tended to have a messier guitar sound which I like a lot better and is probably why he felt the way he did about the album. Harrison's usually did too. Abbey Road feels very much like a Paul album.

She's yet to really match Adele in that respect. Agree, Peak Adele in the first half of the 10's felt bigger to me, at least in terms of her albums which is what I care about. Maybe not hit singles or touring.

www.wmtw.com/article/taylor-swift-tortured-poets-department-poised-to-top-sales-records-next-week/60579717I don't understand this trend of talking about #1 albums when albums don't sell and there's no competition. Swift could have 35 number 1 albums in this climate. What exactly is that supposed to mean? The first thing I would ask this Caulfield person is how many Swift songs he could name, then I'd ask him to sing some of them. There's no real cultural analysis here.

Abbey Road feels very much like a Paul album. There’s fuzzy/crunchy electric guitar on Come Together (the chorus and bridge), I Want You (which is basically proto-doom metal), You Never Give Me Your Money, Carry That Weight, and The End... maybe it’s not “enough” for your taste, but it’s there, albeit used sparingly, so it’s not like they abandoned that sound completely. I get not being a fan of how influential the “clean” sound had on 70s rock, but in the context of the album on its own, I think that aesthetic choice is perfectly suited to the songs in which it’s used... I mean I’m not sure fuzzy/crunchy electric guitar would really be appropriate on Sun King or Octopus's Garden. Your point about how they might as well just play acoustic if they’re going to clean up the electric guitar is weird to me. They’re obviously different in terms of timbre, so substituting one for the other wouldn’t make sense if you’re going for a very specific sound. I mean you wouldn’t say that all jazz guitarists might as well play acoustic… of course not because that would be absurd.

Maybe but Swift actually does it - I mean - and Swift tours too - she's not doing an old lady Celine Dion residency in Vegas and saying she will make album number 5 "a long, long time from now" like Adele does ........... Swift just dumped what is in effect a TRIPLE album so the amount of work is part of the artistic method........I mean that is a kind of cultural analysis in the role she plays isn't it? Even if you hate her in general - to me, you can't say the biggest selling female album artist - maybe one day overall artist, period doesn't sell albums because she made TOO MANY albums that sold ......... she can only do so much - Swift didn't change the cultural climate for the album format - she's just releasing albums in that climate that's all.......

(Ok, maybe not - but it might, all I'm saying)....... here she is today on X doing that annoying Taylor Swift "I'm so surprised!" thing ........ Taylor Swift @taylorswift13
My mind is blown. I’m completely floored by the love you’ve shown this album. 2.6 million ARE YOU ACTUALLY SERIOUS?? Thank you for listening, streaming, and welcoming Tortured Poets into your life. Feeling completely overwhelmed. I was already so fired up to get back to the tour but you doing THIS?? May 9th can’t come soon enough
