Apparently since Pitchfork "only" gave the album an 8.0 a bunch of Swift fans on the internet are now doxxing the reviewer and threatening to burn her house down. I can only imagine the think pieces that would be written if these were evil white male nerds doing this over a video game or comic book movie. Well that essentially is what happened just last month with The Last of Us Part II (which I now realize one of these articles actually mentions, haha), except that was kinda the inverse of this where the creators of the piece themselves were the ones targeted with threats and positive reviewers were harassed for being "paid off" etc... Just another sign that fandom culture is getting increasingly toxic by the day ... truly worrying and this is an especially wtf case where an 8/10 review should be positive by any metric, and by Pitchfork standards that's an AOTY contender (which tbh this album is but really not anything *more* than that except to diehard Swifties I guess)... Yeah, I wasn't denying it happened with nerds just that it gets denounced far more aggressively when "Pop Stan" culture is really just as bad.

Music journalism in general is less critical of stars and their followings because the field is so celebrity-driven and stars have tons of leverage on who gets access. The whole industry is predicated on elevating stars to mass celebrity status and propping them up for their stans because that's where the money is at now that casuals can listen to damn near any song they want whenever they want. I doubt most major music publications would want to risk losing access to Swift or suffering backlash from her fans by harshly criticizing them for this fiasco.

I'll never understand fandom militancy. How do people have time and energy to be so outraged about such dumb shit. I can barely muster up outrage for actual injustice and incompentancy going on everywhere in the country because it's so exhausting, and these idiots are trying to doxx a Pitchfork reviewer for giving Swift a positive review. fuckin priorities

Hmmmm.........rushes her CD/physical media out in the UK to prevent World's Best (Current) Band with 2020s best (non-Dylan) album of the year from actually getting to #1.......alternative/schmalternative, eh Tay-tay? Hmmmmmmm www.nme.com/news/music/taylor-swift-brings-forward-folklore-cd-release-as-chart-race-with-fontaines-d-c-tightens-2721846 Swift’s UK record label, EMI, has now brought forward the ‘Folklore’ CD edition to August 4 in an apparent bid to secure the top spot for a second consecutive week. This comes after the Official Chart Update revealed on Monday (August 3) that Fontaines D.C.’s ‘A Hero’s Death’ was leading the race, and that ‘Folklore’ had slipped to Number Three.

Well, after the shock of inexplicably being tagged in a Taylor Swift thread wore off I finally gave the album itself a listen. Confession time: I know pretty much nothing about her music. I know that she's insanely popular and all that but I've just never been bothered to check her stuff out tbh. I consciously know literally two songs of hers: the 'ME!' one and the one from "Cats" (I like both ). With that said, this album was fucking incredible! I mean, it does indeed feel like some sort of hybrid of The National and Lana Del Rey which for my money is something totally awesome. I mean, come on, a couple of The National songs are pretty much directly referenced here - did she make this album for me? I've never been interested in Swift's pop tunes but this album is something that I definitely be listening time and time again. I love sound like this.

I heard 3 or so tracks from the album. Not bad. What I heard was some of the best stuff she's done. Y'all should still listen to Heavier Things though. New Deep? Only Heart? Split Screen Sadness? Clarity? Home Life? Come on man. Taylor Swift is chasing that. Mayer is the best singer-songwriter since...ever.

This is the one that sounds like a Lana Del Rey if you ask me.

Now I've listened to this album, and it has come alive! on my 5th listen........
My favorite two songs is by far Tears Ricochet and Betty. And then to a lesser extent The 1 and Epiphany.
Do I think there's something that stands out to a great degree compared to her earlier stuff? Probably not. I think Red and 1989 are just as good (more great songs) if not better, so I think she definitely has shown great talent before. But this does feel a little bit different. For the first time, her albums have taken multiple listens. Her songs are usually immediate and hits you instantly. (ME! and Love Story are clearest examples of this) But this one has a muted, introverted aspect to it and it took me 5 listens before it turned the corner for me. I think that signals her evolution.
(Tear Richochet)
I didn't have it in myself to go with grace And you're the hero flying around, saving face And if I'm dead to you, why are you at the wake?
I didn't have it in myself to go with grace And so the battleships will sink beneath the waves You had to kill me, but it killed you just the same
(Betty)
Betty, I won't make assumptions About why you switched your homeroom, but I think it's 'cause of me
You heard the rumors from Inez You can't believe a word she says Most times, but this time it was true The worst thing that I ever did Was what I did to you
But if I just showed up at your party Would you have me? Would you want me? Would you tell me to go fuck myself Or lead me to the garden? In the garden, would you trust me If I told you it was just a summer thing? I'm only seventeen, I don't know anything
Will you kiss me on the porch In front of all your stupid friends? If you kiss me, will it be just like I dreamed it? Will it patch your broken wings?

so this was a really pleasant surprise! The Bon Iver track is better than anything that was on his last album and Swift works well in this space. Not as folksy as I was led to believe, more like indie dream pop in the vein of Lykke Li, but I'm not complaining. My one issue is that because all the songs are so aesthetically similar and follow similar structures at first listen it wasn't easy to distinguish them. There are some standouts, especially "Betty." And there were some other greats in there, but I don't remember which ones they were because a lot of these tracks blend together. Maybe could have used a bit of trimming. Album wore thin towards the end. at first glance it's easily a 7.5 or 8/10 affair at least (them's fightin words ). Curious to see how it holds up on re-listen.

Whoa, first an album which sounds like The National and now a continuation of that album featuring a duet with The National themselves? Ms. Swift, you're trying to seduce me...aren't you?

If anyone had told me back in january I’d end this year in love with a taylor swift album and that I’d wait up at night to listen to her new one on debut night, I’d just laugh and this the person was an idiot. Folklore completely won me over, it’s quite excellent in its sound and songwriting. Can’t wait to listen to evermore now.

Very good stuff - a strong companion piece to "Folklore" indeed. Upon first listen of the album my favorite song is probably 'Tolerate It', although 'Coney Island' is obviously quite special.

Another really good album. Probably not quite as strong as folklore, but still so many good songs and just so enjoyable to listen to. The HAIM feat is probably the stand out as of yet for me with willow and tolerate it right behind.

somehow even better (!) than Folklore. Not a single track on this thing I didn't enjoy on first blush (all damn 15 of 'em), which almost never happens. Taylor knows how much I love those pianos because they're all over this thing. Album is soft, serene, reflective, and often really catchy. A perfect December listen.
best tracks: Willow No Body, No Crime Happiness Ivy Long Story Short Closure
I love how the catchiest tunes from these sister LPs recall the country pop of Fearless and Speak Now. People talk about the folk sway of these records but their pop aesthetic to me speaks more to Swift reconnecting with her roots with the maturity and experience she's gained from everything in between. They're not artistic 180s. Not to me. These sound like Swift songs, only better than they've ever sounded. These albums are beautiful.

This girl is crazy. Drops SEVERAL bombs on us in one year.
But...... Evermore is better than Folklore
Where Folklore has Betty (the highlight), the rest of the album doesn't come close. Kinda hinges on one song that's my favorite of the year. Where this there's Champagne Problems, 'tis the damn season, Happiness, Dorothea, Coney Island.... and my personal favorite Cowboy Like Me. Evermore is THE album of 2020. (as of now. haven't heard much tho)

Look man, I haven't heard the latest Taylor Swift yet in its entirety but there's a few things I know: Kanye West and his ex-wife taping her and trying to make her look like a "liar" was f'n bullshit when it happened.......she won that battle, she won the "I'mmina let you finish battle", she won the "Look What You Made Me Do" battle, she won every battle....basically...... AND When the entire Top 10 songs are your songs.......she's winning the battle against herself even How's the record?****************** Taylor Swift scores one of the most historic weeks in the 64-year history of the Billboard Hot 100 songs chart, as she becomes the first artist to claim the survey’s entire top 10 in a single frame.
Swift surpasses Drake, who logged nine of the Hot 100’s top 10 for a week in September 2021.
