I know no ones going to give a sh it ......but this is going to be a bigger story I reckon about fanatical US media and control of stories we hear (and why). The polarizing columnist Bari Weiss, hired just three years ago as part of an effort to bring more conservative voices to the paper's traditionally left-leaning opinion pages, has resigned from The New York Times. She did so with an unusually combative, vaguely threatening resignation letter that charged she had been "the subject of constant bullying by colleagues who disagreed with my views" and that she had been "called a Nazi and a racist" by them.
She added, in what seems like a vague legal threat, "There are terms for all of this: unlawful discrimination, hostile work environment, and constructive discharge. I’m no legal expert. But I know that this is wrong." www.vogue.com/article/bari-weiss-resignation-letter-new-york-times

Right that's the whole story - they hired her to provide a view point - centrist to most - they then shut down.......you'll see this is a fairly big story today across the media

Absolutely - and I edited my initial reply to you Kirk where I described her as a centrist - she's hardly a right wing extremist. She is exactly the reasonable articulate writer that at one time the NYT would have wanted......I mean at this point David Brooks could literally be assassinated there. Will be interesting to see how this story is spun in upcoming days and I'm sure she'll pop up on interviews...

I remember she made an ass out of herself and sounded like a dumb fuck when critiquing Tulsi on the Joe Rogan podcast haha. Called her words that she didn’t even know the meaning of and not being able to explain the ‘bad ideas’ that Tulsi has right after saying she has bad ideas.
David Doel pretty much sums up my opinions on this:

David Doel pretty much sums up my opinions on this: Yikes ........that was insufferable - he starts out with "yeah whatever" (literally) - then says "he's not going to read the whole thing not going to put you though that" (literally) .........then reads in a whiny "girl" voice.........sexist condescending dick-head. Then he talks about "objective reality" where he proceeds to describe nothing of the kind........then he says how many "pro-Trumpers" are at the Times "probably not many" (implying that's her work when it is not)............then brings up Noam Chomsky as an example of the Left being silenced. That's in the first 4 minutes. Then he brings up Phil Donahue's - 2003 firing - 2003 ........then brings up Jesse Ventura in 2003 /2004.......later mocking her voice again - pronouncing "liar" and "bigot" again like a condescending man with his disgusting penis (um) - Weiss never calls for her colleagues firing and he says she does which is a flat out lie and of course at the end where he actually laughs at her. I think he pretty much summed up my terror with the world today actually ........

I think he pretty much summed up my terror with the world today actually ........ Your first paragraph just seems like an excuse to call him a ‘sexist condescending dick-head’ which you really have no basis to other than him using a Karen voice? Lmao. Using a ‘whiny girl voice’ for a girl that’s whiny doesn’t make you sexist. Also, why would he need to read the whole letter for the viewers if he’s already read the whole letter on his own time? The viewers can go read it if they want, he’s just picking out the most important parts of the letter and the biggest issues that he has with it. As most political commentators do when they make videos like these. He literally describes objective reality around the two minute mark of the video. Saying how people that are actually on the left are the ones that are silenced by mainstream media, rather than conservatives. Which is true. Was there anything wrong about him bringing up Chomsky and his absence on mainstream media? Were those Donahue and Ventura firings not true? You bolding the year it happened to make it seem like it was a long time ago doesn’t deconstruct his argument. He even said in the video that the left has been silenced for the past 50 years. Does 2003 not fall within 50 years ago? She says in the letter “still other New York Times employees publicly smear me as a liar and a bigot on Twitter with no fear that harassing me will be met with appropriate action. They never are.” That’s implying that the appropriate action that should be taken is to be fired. There’s no lie with what David said. She tried to get Massad and other people at the Columbia university fired for speaking up for Palestinians, so it wouldn’t be the first time. I’ll link an article of that below, which also points out other dumb shit that Bari has done. theintercept.com/2018/03/08/the-nyts-bari-weiss-falsely-denies-her-years-of-attacks-on-the-academic-freedom-of-arab-scholars-who-criticize-israel/Your comment pretty much summed up my terror with the world today.

In the letter she said that people called her a Nazi (she's Jewish) and that co-workers openly complained she wrote about Jews too much. Really don't see how there's any way to spin this as not anti-semitic but some people will try. I'm pretty sure if someone told a black journalist they were writing about blacks too much the person who said that would be the one without a job these days.

Using a karen voice as impersonation of someones writing in no way makes you a sexist. He used two high profile people that have been fired for their opinions on a matter as an example. He’s not going to list an incident every year for the past 50 years. It’s one of many examples of how the left has been silenced, which counters her point that the left has the biggest voice in news, mainly mainstream news. Which is a lie as he pointed out. What do you think she meant by appropriate action that should be taken, yet is never taken then? You just have horrible arguing points in regards to the video. Your main attack has been calling him a sexist for using a ‘whiny voice’ as well as using ‘dated’ examples of how the left has been silenced in the news.

He’s not going to list an incident every year for the past 50 years. Gee, I actually think this is the Left (you) trying to do what the Left always does now - they didn't used to - but in 2020 it's YOU telling me what to think, telling me that something I find sexist is not sexist because you say it isn't, YOU deciding that 2003/2004 are relevant to what happened TODAY in 2020 ........because he/you can't find a more recent example on the Left (and THAT'S why he doesn't cite one "per year" for the last 50 years because you know Trotsky got killed in 1940 or something comrade........ thank God he didn't go back THAT far ). He took 15 minutes of my time..........I found it an unimpressive use of his time and mine. Unimpressive and sh it. This is a video from fncking FOX which is hardly a bastion of integrity and yet that gives the story in 3 minutes, 12 minutes shorter (UGH) than the BS one you posted and that actually talks about THIS in 2020 and the history of the Times and free speech in the US. 3 minutes. Why it takes you 4 posts to cover it over and over is beyond me..........it's a news story. I posted it. That's it. Don't you have a Che Guevara T-shirt to wash or something? Kidding..........but not that much.

Kidding..........but not that much. Ahahahaha 😂 OR, we’re having an argument and I’m disagreeing with your point. I’m not telling you what to think, you can think what you want. I’m just saying what you think is fucking dumb. You’re telling me that any man that uses a woman’s voice to impersonate a woman is a sexist. Okay. I guess almost every male comedian is a sexist. I guess the past girlfriends I’ve been with are all sexist too since they all lowered their voice before and try to imitate me with something that I’ve said. Damn, I guess I should go tell them that they were ‘sexist condescending bitches’ for doing so shouldn’t I going by your thought process. 2011, while Cenk Uygur was on MSNBC, he was told to tone it down and invite more GOP people on his show. MSNBC is seen as a ‘leftist’ news network isn’t it? They were going to give him a reduced role if he didn’t do so. There’s a more recent example for you off the top of my head. I guess it IS possible to find one that’s more recent hey. That Fox News video gave no background information on the issue lol. Doel’s video was 15 minutes long (also, he talked about the issues of free speech in the U.S when going over how someone was fired for their anti-war stance) because it gave more substance on what’s actually been happening and why there’s issues in Bari’s letter and why she’s hypocritical. Something you won’t hear in mainstream media. That dude on the video you just posted and praised said that Bari has given an honest and bracing insight into cancel culture. Okay. If he did more research, he would find that Bari Weiss tried to cancel professors at the Colombian university for their differing opinions as I’ve posted with that intercept article. She’s a fucking hypocrite. On top of being a horrible writer and being awful at explaining her ideas. Honestly, go watch her on the Joe Rogan podcast. It’s embarrassing. Especially when she’s an opinion writer. It didn’t take me 4 posts to cover it, it took me one post with one video to offer some insight that you won’t get on mainstream media. It took me 4 posts to argue with your points. Honestly have no clue where that Che comment came from, but okay. 😂 I’d say it was a failed attempt at a joke? but then that’d probably make you feel like I’m trying to tell you what to think and feel so I guess shouldn’t.

If he did more research, he would find that Bari Weiss tried to cancel professors at the Colombian university for their differing opinions as I’ve posted with that intercept article. So now, on your 5th or 6th post for a news item, you accuse her of wielding cancellation power over pro-Palestinian/anti-Israeli professors. You really do not like this moderate/conservative Jewish female. Now Cenk Uygur being told to "tone" it down is somehow comparable to Weiss resigning or (2003) Donahue getting fired - got it - that's not conflating things ........God forbid Uygur invite more GOP people on his show....that might have been (gasp!).............. reasonable. If you type the words Bari Weiss into Google today you will find plenty of articles on both sides spinning this story - all I did was post a news topic about someone that really sticks in your craw apparently - this isn't the " Do you like Bari Weiss thread" no one cares.......it's a news item...... it's humorous to me that you think it is actually more than that ..............but you didn't get the Che Guevara T-shirt joke so humor may not be your thing. Regardless........... in 2 weeks when Weiss starts whatever project she's starting with Andrew Sullivan (gay man, conservative, you like him?) can I post that in News too or are you going to post 10 times to tell everyone what you think of them because we don't want to cream our jeans too soon in this thread for THAT fncking mere news story either .........do we now comrade?

I said that on my second post. I linked you an article that went into detail of her history of trying to ruin the careers of her Arab professors due to their criticisms of Israel, even though she denies it. I don’t like her, no. That should be obvious. Why would I like an opinion writer that lies, is hypocritical, and can’t explain her opinions. Also, why did you have to add in that she’s Jewish when saying that I’m not a fan of her? It’s providing another example of how people that are really on the left are silenced, which is what David Doel was saying. It’s a counter point to what Weiss said in her letter of how the left has the biggest voice in news. Seeing the other commentators on MSNBC, I think there’s more than enough centrist/conservative voices on the show lol. God forbid a leftist (not a fan of Cenk by the way) talks about their opinions on issues ‘too much’. Yeah, which is exactly why I posted a political commentator that posted a video bringing news to his viewers. He didn’t spin the story. Nothing he said was false. Like I said, he gave insight that won’t be posted on mainstream media. Which I like. I have an issue with what you had to say about it, which is why I’ve been making continued posts. Nawh, the joke just wasn’t funny man. It was forced and came out of nowhere. Seeing as I’m not a fan of Che and have never owned a Che tee, it didn’t really hit home either. If you have a bad take on the issue, I’ll make sure to state my opinion of why it’s a bad take. Don’t worry.

I doubt I've read anything by Bari Weiss, at least not anything that springs to mind. I have no idea if she's a good writer or not - regardless of her politics. If she's a good writer, then it's unfortunate she feels as though the culture of NYT isn't suitable for her. If she's not a good writer, then that kinda defeats the premise of the leftist news silencing conservative voices. But again, I don't know which side she falls on - I'll probably check some of her articles out later if anyone wants to provide recommendations. No, I'm not gonna watch her Joe Rogan interview because I care more about what someone who works in print has to say in print than what they say off the dome with a mic in their face.
I have no idea what the culture is like in NYT. Only Bari Weiss and her colleagues do, and the fact that she actively commented about it during her tenure and was largely rebuffed by her colleagues says 2 things to me: 1) her opinion of her workplace is not shared at least by those willing to lend their voices, and 2) her willingness to voice her negative opinions about her workspace on a public forum is a form of hostility that puts her colleagues in a tough spot both publicly and in terms of their relationships to her. If she's right, the only people I'm seeing come to her defense are decidedly not people who were there to see what she went through so she is effectively a matyr in the woke wars, a last bastion for liberty at the NYT. If she's wrong, then this resignation letter should come to the surprise of no one and reads as little more than her trying to spin herself as said matyr in a self-righteous display that would only be more ironic if she had done it all in a tweet just like her earlier newsroom complaint.

True ............................ and the media outlet actually in question here should be criticized too in the way FN is (NYT in this case) .......the fact that a Liberal Zionist who took Israel to task for its cozy relationship with Trump - the fact THAT reporter felt she couldn't write for the NYT is the whole point of this - at least on the surface. Fox News just looks cynical but ........the NYT looks toxic.......for now at least. It will be interesting to revisit this story because it certainly will be a major story for a while and developing and changing. Andrew Yang @andrewyang
If someone like @bariweiss feels like she can’t do her best work at the @nytimes they should make some real changes over there.

Well I think that just compounds the point that the left has become so intolerant they can't even coexist with someone who probably agrees with them 80-90% of the time, it has to be 100% or you're canceled.

Sums up their opinion on Bill Maher. Personally I feel that Maher is an ass and can’t engage intelligently in a fraction of a manner that someone like Jon Stewart is able to, but the fact that he still gets more attacked from the left over his non-pc stuff than the right is ridiculous.
