Don't Look Up made AFI's top 10 list, which has a pretty decent crossover with BP noms. Maybe McKay is critic proof.

It made the cut into the AFI top 10 (also NBR).

At 56% Rotten now with 77 reviews. www.rottentomatoes.com/m/dont_look_up_2021This thing should be completely done and forgotten by now as a serious awards contender, if the fix wasn't already in and it was already decided it was going to be an awards contender when that cast was announced . Those AFI and NBR citations are looking pretty silly now. But because the industry was already in the tank for this movie before it was even released, it might still end up as a Best Picture nominee

This movie will at least be seen by people. Director and lead actor are off the table.

So the tag should say: THe most outstanding movie of the year... only if you squint.

If McKay could get a Director nomination and have Vice nominated across the board, this shouldn’t be too surprising. There’s clearly an industry/critic disconnect with his work, and it’s only a matter of time before the industry gets bored of his shtick.
I think he’s just the Stephen Daldry of today. He too had a phase where he could do no wrong in the industry, produced a top five contender that was panned by critics and followed that up with an even worse reviewed film that still managed to get into BP.
Their trajectories (since McKay started making prestige films) are almost identical despite being very different filmmakers, and like Daldry, I think McKay will soon fall out of favor with with the Academy.

Sounds like he became a little bit too full of himself. Didn't stay grounded. He wanted to win awards.

His 180 turn with The Big Short to me was a courageous artistic step forward. I thought the leaked script for DLU wasn't good, so I've yet to be able to give my verdict on the film, but the nastiness McKay inspires in some reviewers (I won't even call them critics), seems similar to the reflexive contempt towards Crash (2005), a film much smarter than most people.

I'm basing my opinion on the Ferrell and McKay interviews about why their company broke up. As for his movies, he is on a downward trend with critics.

Leo and Chalamet will back with the projects on their horizon, but J-Law needs to convince David Lynch to cast her in something at this point.

I'm a Leo superfan and shat on the script that leaked. I just don't like Del Toro or recent PTA either, so there wasn't much to say in terms of stuff he could have done instead. He got $30 million for one possibly bad movie instead of $5 million for another bad movie with a higher RT score.

The huge disconnection between critics and audiences regarding this movie makes me think that it will definitely be eaten up by the industry folks.

LOL! It's fewer than 50 verfied ratings on the Rotten Tomatoes audience score right now. The audience score is next to useless at the moment. How the fuck can you judge audience score for RT on less than 50 people . It could literally be a bunch of Jennifer Lawrence's friends at the moment inflating that score. You need the number of ratings to jncrease significantly to take it seriously. Let it get into the hundreds, then thousands and then there might be something worth considering. I wouldn't be surprised at all if the audience score stays significantly higher than the critics score, but this is a completely useless stat to report at this moment in time.

The verified ratings on RT is at 88% (3.9/5 average rating) now on still less than 50 ratings. The all audience score is 81% (4.1/5 average) on "50+ ratings."
