become disillusioned with Scorsese lately so I probably need to do a retrospective on a lot of those films to see where I stand now. It's been years since I've seen most of them. But I still love After Hours, I know that much.

What do you not like about Silence? Found it slow and lugubrious tbh - I like what he's trying to do there and it's beautiful looking but didn't work for me really but didn't fail either, a mixed bag......are you a fan Cake? I know the film has some passionate supporters definitely.....

I know the film has some passionate supporters definitely..... I have it at the lower end of my top 10 that year, so I like it quite a bit. I haven't rewatched it since I saw it at the theater though because it is such an exhausting experience. I think it has its flaws, like I think it gets a little repetitive at certain points, and I'm not entirely convinced that Garfield was the best casting choice, but the whole thing had a kind of cumulative, overwhelming emotional impact for me. Between Silence, WoWS, and The Irishman, I think Scorsese has consistently produced some of his best work since Goodfellas, and it's been a great decade for him.

Feels to me like his most ambitious and reflective look at faith, although Last Temptation is right on its heels. I thought Garfield absolutely nailed the lead. My only real complaint with it is actually performance related though - Neeson brought nothing to what should’ve been a fantastic role. Hugo aside (haven’t seen), Scorsese’s been on fire this decade, and I haven’t even seen The Irishman yet.
